Request for HC/Lazarus

HC .. love Lazarus and looking forward to the 3D addon stuff.   OK... now that I have the brown-nosing out of the way  ;)

I have several consoles running in addition to MAME in Laz so setup is not a problem.  What gets me is that it's setup is not intuitive .. each time I leave Lazarus setup for more than a week I forget how to add anything and find myself breaking out the docs to figure it all out again.  A somewhat painful process (obviously seen by a few others on this forum)

I think I remember your site saying someone was working on a utility to help in this area (more than just the dat gen) ... any clue on if this is still planned?

My wish would be for a utility that would ask:
-New emulator section title?
-Image file location for logo?
-What directory are your ROMs in?
-What extension do these ROMs use?
-What is the path/executable for the emulator?
-What is the snapshot directory?
-What is the video directory?
-What is the cabinet directory?
-Other???
==== Then goes off and scans/creates/edits the dat/list/ini files and puts them in the appropriate directories automagically.  (If it could also wash my car and take my dog for a walk I'd really apprecaite it too!)

[b.s.]Thank you for your interest in Lazarus... it's users like you that make this worth while.[/b.s.]

Not that that's out of the way....

Simply put... ain't gonna happen.

#1 Nobody is THAT lost when it comes to setting up Lazarus.

#2  If if such a utility was made it wouldn't do any good as each and every emu requires special attention.  All it would do is lure you into a false sense of security and then people would complain that the utility didn't 'work'.

#3  I don't have that kind of time on my hands and even if I did I wouldn't waste it on making a utility that isn't needed.  I'm not trying to be mean here it's just this project is for fun and I'm not going to concentrate on areas that don't interest me.  I can set it up just fine as well as several other of my users, so I know it can be done.  Therefore a utility isn't needed, it would just be nice.

Long story short Howie won't be making anything that user friendly, ever.  However if anyone else wants to give it a go more power to them, I'll even give them any information they might need.

:)

P.S. SirP's utility helps out a lot on the search strings, but I haven't posted it yet as I keep changing the format on him. ;)

I might volunteer my services for some nifty tools once your new version kicks in.  (Unsupported of course)
