AtomicFE Question
« on: February 24, 2005, 07:01:57 pm »
I have been playing with AtomicFE and really like the look and it seems easy to set up.  I have a question about multi configurations.  I'm a little lost on how to set it up to switch between say the MAME screen and the jukebox screen.  I have set up a second configuration called JukeBox.cfg.  I'm not sure if this is what I was suppose to do or not.  I have AtomicFE working great with MAME it is very easy to set up.  I am also able to set it up with the Jukebox and select the skin for that and save it as Atomic.cfg and it works great but I guess I am suppose to name it something different.  But when I hit "Q" to bring up the select configuration window all I see is history.
From what I can tell from the documentation if I hit "Q" I should then be able to select the newly created JukeBox.cfg to switch it?
Can you give me a little help as to what I am doing wrong?
Much Thanks,
gonzobrian

There is 2 multi-configuration mode:

one very simple which popup a windows to let you select the config file and load it.

the second more complex allow you to make hierarchy and browse configuration without having to popup a windows.

I'm going to clarify you the first one, it seems it is the one you tried.

You did the right things.  You have to create your 2 configurations. One MUST be called Atomic.CFG  (it is the one which will be loader first)

And the Second , what you want. In your case : JukeBox.cfg

Theses 2 files need to be in the same folder than Atomic.exe

One important things, is , for eah configuration open it with AtomicManager.

Check the "advanced options" check box

Go on the "Options Tab" which appears

and Check : "Allow on fly conf selection" check box.

And Save.

Now, you can run Atomic.exe , when you are on the first config.

To popup the menu ,you can press "A" key. (not sure.. in fact, i have a french keyboard.. so may be keys in the doc are wrong).
In fact it is the key which correspond with Player 2 Button 1

To be sure, you can configure your keys with AtomicKey.exe . It is very easy. You should be able to affect you key you want.

i hope it helps

The FONTRATIO , in fact, just change the ratio between the Height and the With of the Font.

If you want change the  Height, you have to edit the layout with the AtomicLayoutManager.exe.

To be able to open the Layout with the Layout manager, you MUST first convert the Layout.png file to BMP format.  Use a tool like Paint Shop Pro or the Standard XP Image viewer and save as BMP. Don't use PhotoShop, it stores BMP file in the wrong format. (Photoshop count DPI resolution starting 1 , instead of 0)

Once you have the Layout.bmp file in the same folder than Layout.png. You can open it with AtomicLayoutManager.exe  . Go on Appearence Tab , and go to the "Fonts" zone, you can change the Font for the TextList.
(even if you can set the width on this tool this parameter is not take in account).   Save and exit. And run Atomic.exe

For now, Atomic doesn't start songs randomly after a certain amount of time, but i will add this features in future version.

hey.

I'd just like to ask another question about AtomicFE.

I've just been testing it out to make my decision on which to use and it does indeed look nice.  however theres one flaw for me, well its either a flaw or theres something not quite right with my setup (and I havent looked that far into it yet.

When each of the skins load up (all downloaded from the AtomicFE website)

use this pic for the example.

I can see on the left of the screen the names of a bunch full of games, and the screenshots in the middle like it should.  However, whichever game I have chosen to load, does not highlight on the list at all, in fact when I press up and down the only real change is in the screenshot picture....pressing up and down cycling through the games does not even scroll the list up and down when it gets to the end, so you end up looking at the screenshot of a game thats main name isn't listed on the left panel.  However, if I press left and right, the list changes a full page or so worth.

Is this normal?  how can I get it to highlight and scroll the title bar, other than that this could be a great emulator, better if you can tell me how :D

cheers,
Tuck

oh and another thing....on that particular animated screen, is it normal that the animation is relatively slow....its running way slower than that animated gif is thats for sure?  This running on an athlon 1400 with arcadevga. XP, 256mb ram.

Hi Midnight Tboy,

For your problem with the list.

Go in your Atomic Folder, search for all ".mem"  files  (ex : Atomic.cfg.mem )  , and Delete them.  It should solve your problem.

.mem file are used to store the position in the list when you exit Atomic in order to be on the same game next time.  But when you are in Configuration period and testing phase you List  and our layout is often not definitive.( you change layout, adjust gamelist..etc..)  and if for example you use a layout which can display 30 game in the list on the screen , you exit from Atomic when your are on the 25th games. If you change the layout , and the new one only display 10 games in the list.  You won't see your selection unless you scroll up in the list until you select the 10th game.

By removing .mem file , it solve this kind of problem by resetting all.

Concerning the speed of animation.  Animation routine are not very optimized yet, so it could be slow on certain machine.  "Rich" layout consumes lot of processor ressource. Some layout can have 3 parallax scrolling , huge alpha blending , background music , and snap video.... this kind of layout require at least a 2ghz computer.  But for basic layout without animation and alpha blending , a 300MhZ computer is enough.

Im using the Nussss7 layout on a 800mhz athalon and it seems to work fine.  Looks great also.
I have a question about scrolling game list also.  I have no problem using the joystick up and down, left right.  But when I use the track ball it will only go up or down about 3 or 4 games then it stops and goes the other direction.  Any ideas, or is this normal.

Hi Gonzobrian,

I don't have Trackball to test. But you are the first one who talk me about this kind of behaviour.

Could replace your trackball by a mouse , and try to go up and down with your mouse and check if you have the same behaviour?

If yes... humm.. may be i have a bug somewhere...
If no , i think it comes from your trackball or your wiring.

I have just started using Atomic FE also and find most of it easy to setup.

I am also having the problem with the mouse only scrolling 3 to 4 games in the list.

Also I can not seem to figure out how to get it to show me the full name of the games instead of the ROM names . I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong or I'm missing some thing.

Thanks

Yes, exactly.  :)

I have a bug on my config tools , sometimes you can erase the FullList.Txt by accident.  It should be corrected in the next version. The next version arrive very soon.

But meanwhile , use that gonzobrian said!

I think it would be great if you would think about letting users add their own pics to display during the screen saver feature in jukebox mode.  It would be great to see a customized slide show while you listen to your favorite tunes.8)
