I noticed that the beer making topic was locked. Should we not talk about beer here, or was there another reason?

Not that I am crying cencorship. You certainly have the right to control topics on this board. I just want to make sure I don't go astray, and missed something.

I don't know why it's locked. I like beer

The creator of a thread I think can lock their own thread now, I'll check when I get home. Looking at the moderation logs, I don't see any moderators locking it. It could be a glitch, I may have missed a log where a mod locked it, or the thread creator may have locked it. Whichever, there's no official stance against beer.

I've unlocked the thread.

Well, obviously you don't have the education to appreciate fresh taste. Plebeian Neophytes may agree that they need less filling. Granted they can't understand the finer things of life.

This discussion is pointless. Everybody who knows anything KNOWS it's the GREAT taste that makes the difference.

I have my degree in live culture farming, including beer, cheese, yeasts and kombucha.

So believe me when I tell you, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the bottom line is LESS FILLING.

The best beer in the world is Pete's Strawberry Blonde. If you haven't tried it I challenge you to try just one. Fully 50% of the people I get to try it are hooked. I buy it by the case.

(I have gotten 2 people to try it).

Saint: Pete's Strawberry Blonde *is* good, but being the liberal elitist I am, you can't beat an import. I like a decent Hefe Weizen, and/or "la Fin du monde" if I can get my mits on one. You should try Fin du Monde, it's a dark beer, with a fruity bouquet, and it's flavor is enhanced through a triple fermentation process. It's like drinking three different beers at the same time...it smells one way, tastes another, and has a third amazing aftertaste.

One comment I adore: "I don't know if it's the flavour of the month in the UK, but in my city the only people who drink La Fin du Monde are window washers who are tyring to forget they are homeless."

Could be the 9% alcohol content! I challenge you back...drink one of these and post about it right afterward.

Already have! I live in the Boston area, so it's mandatory that we try everything Sam Adams brews. A little heavy for me. I can only drink it sparingly, as it's as black as the devil's eyes, and does something funny to me' insides.

MrC is right. I was in Cambridge some time back and they had a microbrewery that had 3 kinds of beer. Light, Dark, and Darkest.

Man it was good.

Sam Adams is a good beer. I like any Sam Adams.

Seamonkey can't understand it's the GREAT TASTE...

Yer so friggen close to Leinie's, you should almost get the stuff for free....and my brother-in-law LOVES Capitol Amber....if he's got it, I'll drink that....because ANYTHING'S better than his other tap...."Lite"....blech.

If any of you have access to it, Leinenkugel's makes several damn fine beers.

If any of you have wives/girlfriends, Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss is like a wine cooler - they'll LOVE it....you, however, may not be able to stomach an entire bottle.

If you like dark beer, you will like Leinie's Big Butt and Double Butt, however, it's only made ~Thanksgiving through February, and Big Butt is less than impressive out of the bottle, need it from the tap.

Those are my "broke" or "I need a change" beer choices.

Spaten is awesome from the tap, very very good from the bottle, and if it can't be found, Salvatore is a decent backup.

I used to live about the same distance from the actual building that's on the Icehouse label.

Funny thing is, for such a nice label, you'd think that building wasn't in a semi-ghetto!

My family immigrated to a Menonite community in Indiana.
We had bees and made soap, candles, honey cakes, and mead.

I still love mead made with clover honey. My uncle used to make something called "homelelelelelel" (or something like that" with blackberries in the regular mead recipe, and it was fantastic.

I think dark beer makes a great chaser for Jagemeifter (spelling?)

hehe....It's Jagermeister...and I hate that stuff. As if black liquorice candy isn't bad enough, drinking it is even worse!!!

Even though it's a staple of my community back home in Michigan (even my grandmother drinks it), we have to bring a bottle to every house we visit, but I still can't stand it.

Sorry to veer too far off the beer topic, but if anyone is into dessert wines, I've got a doozy to recommend. Much like Saint w/ the Pete's...everyone that tries it goes crazy for it.

It's a tawny Port wine called Benjamin Port. It's very sweet, meant to be sipped at room temperature, after dinner. It's relatively cheap ($12/bottle), imported from Australia, and rivals some of the best from Portugal (The origin of Port wine). The nose is like a whiskey, and the initial flavor seems like it'll be just as harsh. It isn't. The aftertaste is amazing. If you can handle the sweet stuff, then I guarantee you'll keep a bottle stocked for yourself and one for guests.

If you try it, post here and let me know what you think. I plan on trying everything that's been recommended here. That'll be a fun night!

My favorite beer.... Guinness. I love my beer dark, so dark, you can't even shine a light through it.

Ahh... someone mentioned Port. I love that stuff. So far, my favorite is a tawny Port called Whiskers Blake (I think). The aftertaste is a bit like raisins.

I feel left out. I don't drink beer (very often). I never liked the dark's because they feel "heavy" and I don't like the lights because they taste like water. About the only one I like is Leiniekugels. Too bad I can't spell it.

I prefer liquor. JD on the rocks & Red Bull Vodkas. It burns sooo good.

I was drinking something called "Skummy" or "Scrumy" or maybe "Solomon Grundy". (heh)

It was a delightfully dirty cider.

Any Erdinger fans on the board. I've got the funky glasses that seem to get you hammered faster for some reason. Its available clear, cloudy (my fav) and dark. Lovely stuff. A bit expensive so I only drink it 5 or 6 times a day

When I was growing up there was something called Scrumpy Jack. It was the cheapest thing you could get at the off-licence, made you smell like your clothes were saturated in old urine and gave the foulest of hangovers. Once I turned 16 I realized that I didn't want to sacrifice my taste buds for the sake of drinking such a brew. Good thing I stopped too, looking back.
Scrumpy Jack (and Linden Village as well as other similarly cheap ciders) is for men that were once 'this close to being someone important' but now live out of a nice dry ditch at the side of the local canal and spend their days shouting at birds and any children that might be unfortunate enough to pass by.
The only good thing about it is if you drink two 2 litre bottles of it, your piss will be powerful enough to take paint off pretty much anything. Thats one way to impress the ladys!
