Does Ultracade own the intellectual property rights of the Ultrastyle front end?

That is what I thought, so technically they have no right to end an ebay auction through Ver0 claiming they own Ultrastyle, correct?

lnik to auction?

Would love to give you the link, but it is gone now even from My Ebay.  The auction is totally removed.   I have sent an email to David Foley of Ultracade inquiring of this.

Kevin Steele just posted this in alt.games.mame:

Quote
It looks like David Foley of Ultracade filed for a trademark on January
11th, 2005 for both "MAME" and "Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator", and
has hired lawyers in both the US and UK to go after anyone using the
terms, starting with auctions on eBay (apparently, a Dream Arcades
cabinet auction was pulled because it mentioned MAME...)

In addition, it looks like Mr. Foley may be going after the MAME
emulator itself, claiming that the code that circumvents copy protection
in the CP32 emulation violates the law and is illegal.

This story is just breaking, but I'll report what I find as soon as I know more...

Not so.  Ultracade has it's own emulator.  I don't know why he'd try and do this, other than trying to clamp down on competition.

Welp,
It looks like I may be taking the brunt of this.. I haven't been contacted by anyone, but I guess I sort of opened the door to direct competition..? And now someone says that ultrastyle is being sold on ebay? I can assure you all that I'm not making a dime from that.. I have had donations, but I've made little more then the compiler cost me in the first place. If anyone sees anyone selling ultrastyle anywhere, please let me know. I have put many many hours into programming that FE, and NO ONE should be benefitting from my work. I just hope I'm not in a sueable position as far as ultracade is concerned.

It seems now upon talking to Mr. Foley that it was not for Ultrastyle, but rather the words: "MAME" "Street Fighter 2" "Mortal Kombat" "Galaga" "Tron" "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Pac-Man".  I also had a Mortal Kombat 2 screenshot and one from Marvel Vs Capcom that set him off as well.  I figured I was okay with those since I own both machines and was showing screenshots of the correct versions to the machines I own.  Guess I was wrong on that as well.  Sorry about this Ultrastyle, I was mislead.  Still sucks though...

btw-  I did not mention that my auction came with ANY games and specifically said it included none.   It seems creating a scene of remembering playing games in an arcade and using names of games is now copyright infringement, so I guess I will just have to watch my mouth.  ::)
