AH, apparently my post is taboo, and DL and SP are available on the market.

I went to digital leisure and looked at what they had; pardon my newbie ignorance here, how do they work with mame?

Dragon's Lair roms are legal. You can get them here.

You'll have to get the MPEG videos from your own DVD or laser disc. I used the 20th anniversary edition DVD-Video.

I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

They don't work with MAME, they work with Daphne.  I haven't used Daphne - (Don't have the 'ing DVD images, but anyway . . .)

Digital Leisure 20th Anniversary DVD video here too.  I had the mpgs you see around and they were not nearly as good as the real deal.  You get what you pay for in this case.

Daphne is a cool cool program, but it's a pain to set up. The daphne homepage has some good FAQs and whatnot, plus if your discs came with ROMS and framefiles you probably just need to drop them onto your c: drive and put the emulator in. I ended up manually editing my framefiles, and that sucked.  :P

As for making DL and Space Ace files there's a utility called DVDtoDaph that does it, but I have no experience there. There was a thread about it some months back though... but I can't find it.

Honestly, if all you want lasergame wise is DL and Space Ace, track down the DVD rom 20th anniversary set. But if you like other lasergames, like Cliffhanger and Cobra Command, it's worth the trouble.

I'm not sure what you are referring to.

daphne is simple to setup.....  the only difficult part is finding the video files for games other than dl and space ace.  If you get them from the proper place they come with framefiles and thus setting up daphne is no more diffcult than setting up a hd game in mame.... all it requires are roms and an image and setup is farily self-explainatory after that.

Well, I messed with daphne a whole bunch before I got it running... but I was determined to play Cliff Hanger.  ;D

I ended up having to do some editing to the directories noted in my frame files and editing some ROM names before I got all of my games to work. Now though I have almost every supported game up and running! Yay me.  ;)

Well, I got a lot of information so I'll have to see if I can put it to use now....

From what I've heard I'll ahve to see if I can purcahse the DVD rom and go from there. Probably going to run into problems I can see that already...

I would be very surprised if you run into problems using DVD2Daph to convert the Digital Leisure (cheaper on eBay than from digitalleisure.com) DVD-VIDEO (this is important) set to mpg.

I was even able to get DL2 Timewarp working with the CVS version of Daphne though a whole bunch of optimization needs to be done on a later version of Daphne before it will be playable in any real sense.

DVD-Video is that a specific version of the media that I need? I have not started shopping for it yet but I want to make sure I get the right thing...

The discs come in DVD-Video, DVD-ROm and probably CD ROm, additionally there are old and new versions floating around on eBay plus some guys market them as XBOX or PS2 versions which is dumb because they play in any DVD player and just use the XBOX or PS2 DVD functions.  So to minimize confusion, you want the 20th anniversary DVD-video that way you know it is the right thing.  As for playing it in a normal DVD player... thats just lame too but at least you can watch the mpg sequences.

You use DVD2DAPH to convert them for use with Daphne.   It is a free utility and flawless in my experience I don't even think you need to configure anything.

Read about it here:

http://www.laserarchive.com/dvd2daph/

That should answer any questions.  As for DL2 I think I used CONVVID2DAPH which is another free utility you can google for.  No real need to convert it now since as mentioned before that game isn't really playable yet.

Last hint.  If you happen to be in Canada you may want to phone digitalleisure first since they are in Canada as well and shipping is cheap as well as the Canadian price works out better than the converted $US price so maybe you can do better than on eBay.

Or just check your local mega-electronics stores.

You can still get the DVD Video 20th Anniversary set (DL Enhanced, DL2 and Space Ace) at places like Best Buy for $20.

BuZz880, thanks for the rundown that definetly helped. I'll check the local stores as Gunstar mentioned and see what I find. I'm too impatient for ebay :-)
