I'd like to be drinking whole milk, she wants skim, so I buy 1%.

Remember to drink your milk and stay in school!

Whole milk is for little kids.

Then why do they sell it in those big gallon containers, instead of little cartons with a straw on the side? ;)

You should consider yourself lucky she doesn't want you to switch to soy milk  :-X

and btw, you CAN choke down skim milk even if you are used to whole milk.....you just need to make sure you use enough hershey's chocolate.

Hey, since we're talking about this....does ANYONE here drink Ovaltine?

Whole milk - aka "Fat Kid Milk".

Don't settle for less. ;)
I take down 1 gallon a week of the stuff (the girlie doesn't like milk).  I figure that if it sticks to the side of the glass, it'll stick to your ribs.

When I was a powerlifter, I used to drink nearly a gallon a DAY of whole milk.  Then I went lactose intolerant and I was seriously ill for months until we figured it out.  That was an ugly few months.

milk is meant for immature digestive systems found in infants , their really isn't a whole lot that it offers in the way of nutrition , vitiam D - go out in the sun a bit , calcium - well that's added to just about everything now ( of note , osteoporosis is NOT a lack a calcium (no matter what TV tells you )  , it's a lack of the body's ability to use calcium in bones , gall stones and kidney stones are very common in people with osteoporosis and i feel that over the next 20 years more and more people will get stones because of calcium being added to everything under the sun ) .. of course the dairy industry would like you to think differently , this parrells the grain industry that has bread as the largest part of the outdated food pyramid , a pyramid the grain industry helped develop.

I don't drink milk for a lot of reasons.  Biggest reason: it's friggin' disgusting!  You're drinking the bodily fluids of an animal.  Also, I know what it does inside your body.  No, thank you!

I do eat ice cream occasionally, and eat cheese.   Go figure!

Soy milk isn't that bad, IF you get good stuff.  The stuff by Sun Soy is really good.  DON'T drink it expecting it to taste like cow's milk - it doesn't.  I prefer the chocolate.  Yum!

Still think people who don't drink milk are weird?  When was the last time you saw a dairy product in a Chinese dish?

no cattle in Asia , any beef products you see in Chinese food was introduced by western culture.

edit: err , i was thinking japan ..

Interesting. I read an article in the paper about this recently. Apparently new research suggests that far more caucasians are lactose intolerant than was previously thought.

The ability to digest lactose has to do with a digestive enzyme called Lactase.  Lactase is produced by the human body until sometime before age 10 a body will stop producing it.  The ability to produce Lactaste in an adult body is a genetic mutation.

READ THAT AGAIN:  The mutation is LACTOSE TOLERANCE.  LACTOSE INTOLERANCE IS THE ABSENCE OF A GENETIC MUTATION.

Historians have tracked that mutation back to several places in history, but mostly Northern Europe in the time of the Vikings.  It was a Darwin style genetic adaptation that allowed them to use goat's milk as a large part of their diet.  As the Vikings tromped south, they spread their genetics as well (red hair, lactose tolerance, physical size, etc) throughout Europe.

This is why white people, who generally came from Europe, consume a lot more dairy than any other race.  It is only the West's Eurocentrism that has kept us thinking the entire world was milk drinking all these generations.

Lol. Defending the earth from the forces of evil by drinking lots of milk. Wolverine eat your heart out!

In case any milk drinkers reading this think they're a 'mutant' I should point out that all of our traits (both good and bad) are ultimately the result of mutations.

Mind you a lot of people who post here don't seem to believe in evolution anyway. ;D

While true, when combined with the origin of the mutation, one can learn a hell of a lot about why one race has it in nearly everyone and the rest of the Earth does not.

I still drink milk, but between the wife and me, we MIGHT go through a half gallon to a gallon a week.... I used to go through 2 gallons a week as a kid (much to my grandparents chagrin)...

I use it more for cooking now than actually drinking (at least without the Hershey's syrup).....

I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that I started the "Rock the "Danny is a hippy" vote".

I'm DrewKaree, and I approved THAT message  ;D

Although I've heard that he's had a cutting implement taken to his locks, I'm going to have to stick with the "He's a hairy hippy straight off the Stench Ranch" theory until I see otherwise  ;)

And if you like, Google "Stench Ranch" and do your part to help out a worthwhile charity (although if you can figure out what charity it is, you prolly already know what Stench Ranch is, who started it, and where it's from)

When I spent some time living in Brazil, all of our Brazilian friends laughed at my other American roommates and I because we wanted milk to go with some chocolate cake.  They asked if we were children.  There, instead of milk, they sell this nasty stuff that looks like baby formula, and doesn't have to be refrigerated.  They use it in coffee, in cooking, and on cereal, but don't normally drink it straight.  At least in Sao Paulo, about the only place you can find regular milk is in a bakery.

There are a lot of different ones...some are *much* better than others.

Sun Soy is pretty good.  Soy Dream is better.  White Wave is okay, but don't even bother with 8th Continent.

Is that a Canadian thing?

And finally - how do you milk a Soy?  ;D

Now, I KNOW Kraft HAS to make other stuff in order for "KD" to be used instead of just saying "Mac-n-cheese", but what other dinners does Kraft make, or are they all just variations of mac-n-cheese (i.e. White cheddar-n-wheels, or something equally as (pardon the pun) cheesy?)

My wife pointed out once that humans are the only species that continue to lactate into adulthood. I haven't had milk since. Still eat cheese though. Odd that.

Oh and I look a bit like a hippy myself, and have been known to hug a tree from time to time, but only after licking a frog.

Erm, you can keep an animal lactating indefinitely by keeping a reason for it to do so.  Dairy cows lactate not only into adulthood but pretty much their whole life.  I can't think of a lactating species that doesn't lactate in adulthood.

It's made with some rather not-so-nice ingredients.  I think soy protein isolate is one of them, along with a host of other crap.  It should be ground soybeans, water, evaporated cane juice and carageenan.  Vitamins and flavor (like vanilla or chocolate) can be added.

I drink whole milk.... I love it.  I don't drink a ton of it, but I prolly go through a good 1/2 gallon or gallon a week by myself.

The real kicker is cheese though... I could NOT live without cheese. I love it so much.  I'm Italian and I guess it's kinda engrained in me, but whatever it is... cheese is the best in my book.

Yay!  Someone said KD!

Oh admit it Drew, you KNEW it was Canadian.  I think you have Canadian genes!  Is that a touque in your back pocket??  Like to let slip an eh? here and there?

In other news, my fellow mutants and I were eating some KD, sipping some fine goat's milk, and damn if we didn't get the urge to plunder and pillage a nearby village.  Luckily, none of the peasants were hurt, and we took all their KD!

Yay again!

On an oddly related twist, drinking cold milk makes my nipples erect.  No lactaion, but still.

Ever heard of mastitis?

Thats another word for "disguisting infected cow nipples that squirt pus instead of milk". Feeling thirsty yet?

It gets better, they carefully monitor the amount of pus in your milk to make sure its not overloaded with pus. The pus content of milk is "Somatic Cell Counts" which measures how many puss sells there are per MILLILITRE of milk (a millilitre is about one drop).

Obviously it's unreasonable to expect that something we force our kiid to drink in school is pus free, I mean come on, these guys have a business to run! we have to be pragmatic about this.

If your milk has more that 750,000 pus cells per ml then it has too much pus, if it has 749,000 pus cells per ml then its just fine.

I bet all those lactose intolerent persons in china are thinking "pus guzzeling perverts!"

Got milk pus?

I noticed you're drinking 1%.  Is that because you think you're fat?   Because you're not.  You could be drinking whole if you wanted to.

and also....there is a limit to how many maggots my frozen pizza can have on it.   I don't care about the cooked maggots in my pizza or the cow pus on my Count Chocula.  I wonder what kind of animals they have crawling all over my beer bottles and cans...and poop in my chocolate cereal.......isn't that why we have an immune system?  so our body can handle small ammounts of pus and poop and hair and maggots?

loosen up people.  think about the stuff in the air...you could get one of those chambers like michael jackson has...I'm pretty sure little boys don't have germs on them....as long as they don't drink milk.......

speaking of cows ... here is a list i love to give to those who claim they dont belive we need to kill cows to survive and refuse to eat meat .. i just tell em they are still killing cows even if they dont eat meat :-)
( taken from augest 2001 discover )

Where's the beef?
Every last scrap of cow gets used somewhere

that's a good post.  do the slaughterhouses ship the cows to various companies or do the companies have to request what parts they need?  i always thought the slaughterhouses' main profits were from beef.  i know milk is curdled with stomach lining to make cheese, and cheese is probably eaten more than beef.

I used to drink a lot of milk.  I started getting heartburn more often and went to the doctor about it.  Turns out that milk causes "acid rebound".  Milk starts off basic but as it breaks down in your stomach it turns acidic.  I stopped drinking milk and no more heartburn. ;)  Soy milk is ok on cereal once you get used to it.  Wouldn't just drink it to have something to drink though. :-X

I can say with some certainty that this is one of the ONLY boards out there where a Soy milk conversation can erupt!

On an unrelated note, even though I could go out and get a 5 course meal at the most sought after restaurant in town right now, I'm going to enjoy a pot of KD and pus, er milk.  Right out of the pot!  WITH A WOODEN SPOON NO LESS!

BWAAAHAAAHAAAAA I'm drunk with my own power!

How do you not know what Kraft Dinner is?

Personally, I'd rather drink soy milk than eat chemical cheese. You're doing your family a favour by turning them off KD. Blech.

The preceding was NOT an endorsement for soy milk. Blech too, just less of a blech than KD.

Depends on the brand of soymilk.  And regardless of brand, the chocolate stuff is tasty.

peale you surprise me, youre all about like natural stuff u wanna kill your own chickens using highway cones lol. but then you drink soy milk??

Soy milk isn't natural?  Ground soybeans, water, dehydrated cane juice, vanilla or chocolate.  Instead of food that's supposed to be for baby cows that's filled with PUS from overmilking.  Hmmm...desicions, decisions....

Kraft Dinner isn't hard to figure out, but if you've never heard of it referred to as "KD" as evidently every Canadian has, you'll have a hard time figuring that out.

i meant to say silk soy milk.  soy dream isn't around much anymore.  i like the so-yum from trader joe's.

they have to artificially inseminate the cows so they lactate.  then the calves are often ripped from the womb early for veal.

the marinara sauce at my restaurant is 40% chicken fat...it contains more chicken than water and tomatoes.

Chances are that the soy milk has also been genetically modified. Not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, just that there are also a number of unknowns to add to your line up....

With the soy milk I drink, I highly doubt it.  Esp. since it states right on the package 'does not contain GMO Soybeans'.  Most of the stuff I drink is also organic.  8th Continent, OTOH, not only uses crap, extra chemicals and isn't organic, also uses GM soybeans.
