DB25 Crimp Connectors(best way to insert/crimp)?
« on: February 06, 2005, 03:43:04 pm »
I just picked up some db25 connectors from radio shack, and they are the crimp style. Just a couple of questions.

Is the wire supposed to slide all the way into the end of the pin? Or just slightly into it, and crimp around the bare wire. Or are you supposed to slide the wire into the pin, and crimp around the wire jacket? If its supposed to slide all the way to the end of the pin, then I guess Im screwed, I used 22 gauge solid wire on my DC controls, and it wont slide all the way in, just barely in.

The wire doesn't have to slide all the way into the pin, just as long as you can crip around the bare wire it a good enough connection.

There are two sections to the crimp.  One should wrap around bare wire, the other should wrap around insulation.

Crimping solid wire is generally not a good idea.  It won't give you a good connection and will be prone to pulling out of the crimp if you put any strain on it.  It may be difficult to switch to stranded wire, but you might consider switching to solderable DB connectors.
