Zsnes mod needed.
« on: February 05, 2005, 12:06:00 pm »
Any programmers out there want to do a quick and dirty favor for all of us avga owners?

Can anyone modify this emulator and change the 320x240 mode to 321x240?

It currently looks real funny on a real arcade monitor.

(the 256x224 seems to come up interlaced also.)

Thanks,

It looks more like bilinear filtering is applied to it to me, but yes, not good.  I don't even get the option for 320x240...I'm using v3.6 though,

I'd be eternally grateful if anyone is able to do this too!!  ;)

Ok, that strange that you have a v3.6 since the current release version is 1.42.

I've got it to go into 321x240 mode, but it seems to be scaling the screen weird.
the left hand side of the screen is in focus, but the middle and right are blurry.

I think we may be hitting a emulation issue, i.e. the snes has a higher resolution  than we are trying to display it on.

From a snes hardware spec sheet.

Resolution: 256x224, 512 x 448 pixels max hi res and interlaced modes.

Maybe thats why they were telling me that ALOT of games wouldn't work.
(They weren't specific on why, they just said they wouldn't.)

Update, while I was typing this I had a idea, so I just tried 640x240.
Looks ALOT better!!!!!!!

minwah.. Can I email you a copy of the exe for you to try?

Here's a release to try for arcadevga owners..

Just select one of the 640x480 modes.. I've mapped them down to 640x240.

(You don't seem to notice the vertical resolution missing, but if you don't have 640 across it looks horrible.)

Please post back here how it worked/looked for you.

Great, it works pretty well :)

Some games look perfect (eg Pilot Wings), but some others look quite blurry (eg Super Mario Kart).  Another game I tried is Striker - this looks perfect up until you start the game - then the lower score section is OK, but the main part of the screen is blurry.  Presumably this is due to different games using different modes...but I didn't think that many games used the higher res.  When I say 'blurry', it looks pretty much the same as when running ZSNES at 256x224.
