The cookie patrol got sued.

I'd love to have a couple girls bring cookies to my house.  Cookies, eye candy, and a cash settlement.  Almost as good as the nude juice bar (link was at bottom of that page).

Steve Gill in Nashville has a fund raiser going on to pay the fines and court fees.  So they are covered.

WADDABITCH anyway.  Somebody knocks on the door at 10:30pm and she's having a nervous breakdown.

What kinda lawyer would have the self respect to sue some girls for trying to be nice? This woman and her lawyer have absolutely no shame in my opinion.

Then telling the girls that "she hopes they learned their lesson"

What lesson is that? Not to knock on the crazy wench's door?

I'm just wondering why the judge didn't throw the case out to begin with....  if the lady didn't want neighbors (particularly nice GENEROUS ones)... go live in the mountains....

I don't know if a lawyer ever got involved (at least not in the courtroom).  It sounds like a small claims case.

But no good deed goes unpunished...

There are some old people who live down the block I work (my office is in a residential area) who will sit by their windows and glare at you should you have the gall to park in the front of their houses.  It's limited parking too so they'll call the cops over the second you're parked one minute past two hours.  Meanwhile, they don't drive cars themselves and they barely leave the house.  They just want to be grumpy. (OOPS - Just reread the story and it looks like she's not old - 49.  That's much more pathetic.  She's already a basketcase.)

Anyway, if you suffer $900 worth of emotional trauma because someone came to your door a little late then that's the first sign you can't live alone.  It's time to look into those retirement homes (EDIT: Yes, even at 49).  Cruel?  Perhaps, but if someone leaving you cookies sets you off (even if it is late) then you're too far gone to be able to keep the house from exploding.

But it's a free country and if you don't want people skulking around your house at certain hours, fine.  But that's not something you should collect $900 over.  Solving that would have needed nothing more than a phone call and explanation.

The girls should make her a second batch of cookies but with spit in the dough.  Or better yet, be extra nice to the rest of the neighbors who appreciated the gesture and wait for the day the old bag asks why she's being ignored.  But she'll probably sue them for emotional neglect and get awarded more unearned money.

Stupid legal system.

The wrong thing is, they families stepped up and said sorry, and offered to pay the doctors bills, but the woman drug them to court anyways, seeking punitive damages as well.

She probably saw $$ in it.  :-\

Damn sue-happy people.

Off topic a little bit, but....

A couple of years ago some Mormons were door knocking down-under and the owners let them in to discuss.

They were presented with some cookies to munch on while they went on with their spiel. Apparently the Mormons really got stuck in and had 12 cookies each.....

It turned out the cookies were actually hash cookies and the two dudes got extremely smashed and one spent the night in a hospital.

I don't know the outcome of the trial.

I liked the nude juice bar story - the owner of that place really wants to have his nudey girls around.  He might not be too keen when they end up having to wear pasties - and I'm not too sure where they'd actually wear such the pastry meal.  Maybe it will become a restaurant where you eat food off the girls.

I've been to Salem SD (location of the nude juice bar story).  They should BE so lucky to be considered the sin city of SD (never happen though.  Deadwood has legalized gambling) Salem has a population of 500 or so, and absolutely nothing going on there.  Waste of good farmland.  :)

The fact that there was an offer of an apology and payment for medical bills (IMO) speaks to this woman's bitter spiteful streak, and her trying to use the legal system as a bank.

Ya know what I also like?  That broad refuses an offer to pay her medical bills, now KNOWS they were there to deliver cookies as a goodwill gesture to her, and thinks that "the apologies weren't sincere".  This lunatic wouldn't know sincere if it walked up to her house, knocked on the door, and delivered cookies to her  ;)
