Are you talking about this?

It is pretty good.  It always jams when one of my friends uses it but it doesn't jam for anyone else, which is kind of weird.  He must really punish it or something.

Any update on this?

I'm gonna order two Blaze Scorpion 3 lightguns, and I want pedals for them.

I'll probably end up making some if I get time.

If the scorpion 3's require you to leave them pluged into the controller ports while playing PS2 games then you probably can't use them with these pedals.

Could you hack a PS1/PS2 extention cable so you can hook up the pedal between your gun and your console?

            Pedal
               v
               v
Gun>>>>>>>>>PS2 Console

How difficult would that be?

Thanks.

You can't hack inputs into the cable because by that time they are translated into a digital signal.  You have to hack in inputs on the other side of the translator chip - onto the controller.

As for Jadawali,
I looked up those Blaze Scorpion 3 guns and it looks like they have Guncon2 compatibility.  (As well as GC1).  Which means that they connect to the USB port, so you can connect a playstation controller as well meaning that you can use that pedal or any other input hacked onto a PS controller.
There is SO a spoon.

Thank you for the info.

However, I read that the Scorpion 3 needs to be plugged into the controller port even if using a Guncon2 game becasue it draws power from that port.

Would a hack like this work (it'd have to be adapted to the Guncon2 somehow):

Thanks.

Just plug it into port 2 that way you can still plug the pedal in port 1.  It isn't worth trying to play Time Crisis multi player on a single console even if you have a big screen tv it ends up looking all blurry in split screen mode.  Your better off linking 2 playstation 2's together and useing 2 TV's.

Woops.  I totally didn't connect your posts as from the same person, and I missed that power-drawing info somehow.  What spiffyshoes says is true (although Time Crisis 2's double-gun mode works okay as two player if you just throw it into a party and people don't ask questions.)  And that wrongcrowd modification is exactly what I was thinking of when I said that you need to hack into the controller.

Thanks for the info, guys.

I specifically bought a big-screen, regular CRT TV for playing lightgun games (35" Sony). I have 2 PS2s (one with a DRE), but I do not have 2 TV's to use (one is an old 20" with no brightness control, and is too dark).

An inline/controller hack would be nice if possible. Referring to my old "diagram", couldn't the foot pedal be wired to a controller's button(s) in between the gun and the PS2?

Thanks.

The buttons on the light gun are the same as any other Playstation Controller.  They have a little PCB behind them and a rubber spring thing that makes the contact when the button is pressed.  You could hack your pedal to it just as easily as you could to a Playstation Controller.  If you don't wan't to leave the pedal attached to the gun all the time just have it plug into the gun via a molex conector or something.

Would there be a way to do this without modifying the gun, if possible (i.e. using an old $2 PS1 controller from EB Games)?

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/222527.asp

I'd rather not mess with the lightgun because that would be much more expensive to replace.

Yes it would be very possible.  The Red Octane pedal is just like a normal controller.  Obviously it one has one button, which I think is the X button.  So you could connect your pedal to an old ps1 controller's X button and it should work.

Better yet, here is a controlelr for $1:

http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/222528.asp

Enter codes "PPLAY15" (15% off pre-owned items) and "SAVER" (free shipping)  for an even better deal.

I read somewhere that people were having trouble using the original Sony controllers for making arcade control panels, and they suggested 3rd party controllers were better.

Now, how would I physically do this (I.e. where to order the pedal, what wires to buy, etc)? I can do basic soldering.

Well of course you could hack the pedal to a PS1 controller.

Thanks for the info.

Well of course you could hack the pedal to a PS1 controller.  That was what I origonally suggested but you said that you needed both controller ports free for your 2 light guns because they draw power from the controller ports.  So if you have both light guns pluged in to the 2 controller ports then where would you plug the pedals into?  You might could use a multi tap but I don't know if that would work correctly or not.

I was planning/hoping to see If I could use a pedal (hacked with a PSX pad) "inline" either before or ofter my lightgun is connected to the PS2. This is why I'd need to buy an extention cord or two (per gun), so I could cut it up. Does a PSX cord have the individual wires inside the main controller cord (one wire for each of the 9 pins)? If so, this would be much simpler to do.

Yes the Playstation coords have the wires for each pin in them.

I'll draw up a diagram later if I get some time.

It uses the power mainly for a laser, cause the gun doesn't have recoil/vibration feedback.

Here is a link to the manual (maybe you can get more info out of it than me):

http://www.xploder.net/?s=24_ff2819b1-eca6-4558-bac9-f435d7ca793&c=ps2&a=products&id=19

You gotta download the manual (.doc file)
