Does MameWah work with Mame32?
« on: January 31, 2005, 09:40:11 pm »
I finally got around to trying MameWah.  Looked to cool & I couldn't resist any longer.  I've been (and still am) using Mame32.

I've downloaded MameWah v1.6 & installed.  I've read thru the 'read.me's but apparently am missing something.  When I fire it up, I get 'no games available' (or something like that.  I press '2', then select 'generate list', and nothing happens.  According to the readme, this is where your games pop-up?  I've never seen it before so I don't know.  I've checked my rom paths & executable path several times, I'm pretty sure they're both correct.  Am I supposed to create a game list .txt in the MameWah \ini folder?

I'm using Mame32 .79.  Does this work with MameWah?  Any suggestions?  I did a search, found about 2.2 million hits on the subject.  Everytime I'd read one, then hit the 'back' button, I then needed to re-do my search.  That got old after about 7-8 times.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

elvis

Why use MAME32?  MAME32 is functionally identical to the standalone, vanilla, command-line MAME, simply adding a GUI frontend which is completely unecessary if you're using another FE like MAMEWah anyway.

Learn how to configure MAME via its config files, and use it with MAMEWah instead.  The config files are well commented, and pretty self-explanatory.

Thanks - Mame32 is the first & only version of Mame I've used.  I just finished my cab in Oct. 2004 & this is what I put on there.  I was just hoping MameWah was compatible with what I had.  I'll take a look at putting command line mame on my cab if that's what I need to do.

I think I need to change my 'handle' to 'LazyBastard'.  I've set-up mame .91b, and got MameWah running using that.  Now I need to figure out all the neat little MameWah tricks....and those screenshot's in Stuzza's screenshot resource look a w e s o m e!  Off I go...

I had the same problem trying to run Advanced Mame under Mamewah, i.e. I had trouble figuring out how to generate the list of games. Here's what worked for me...

1) Make sure mame.ini contains...
list_generation_method                    rom_folder_vs_listxml

2) Make sure your mame directory contains xml2info.exe. It is included in the standard mame download.

Kook is right :)

If you still want to configure MAME versions prior to 0.84, you should change this:

list_generation_method                    rom_folder_vs_listxml

for this:

list_generation_method                    rom_folder_vs_listinfo
