How do you set keys as "NA" in mame?

there are some keys, such as some of the F keys, that I do not want doing naything in mame. How do I set a function in mame to "NA" not available.
Coming soon: 4 player mame cab and Scratch built Moonwalker....Hall of Fame, here I come!

From what I remember, you select the input, like you're going to assign a key to it, then hit ESC.

I guess it won't assign ESC since it's hardcoded to exit or something.

Thanks guys, the escape key was right. I was just worried because with a 4 player panel, each having 4 inputs for the joysticks, then the pushbuttons, then the start and coin for each player, then administration keys, im going to need alot of keys available, so for such functions as an F key being "frameskip?", I would rather have "frameskip" have no key and a player pushbutton be that F key, so thanks again  8)
