Updated Crashtest MNG Video pack.
« on: January 29, 2005, 04:01:17 pm »
Just noticed that Crashtests MNG pack was updated on 29th December 04... The previous version from november was the one linked to from here before I think.

It has a lot more videos than the previous one, and is around 5gig.

You can get the torrent here:

http://www.emu-france.com/?page=fichiers&idFile=3142

(For anyone who does not use advance mame and hence can't use MNG videos, I've thrown together a crude program that will convert the mngs to avis. Ironing out some bugs at the mo, but if there is interest I'll polish it up.)

ok cool - I'm just having some issues with the mp3's at the moment... (they are already in a handy format, but programs that will mux an mp3 file into an avi won't take mng/png - and programs that take png/mng won't mux an mp3, only a wav...... a workaround works, but degrades sound quality.....trying to patch this up)

I dunno if I'd bother silver. I love crashtest and the things that he does, but the "attract modes" that he releases aren't the full attract modes, rather a few seconds of gameplay.  Imho this is unacceptable compared to a nice, full attract mode.  MMM can fill in a lot of the gaps, the rest can be done manually.

@rockmes

PM me your email and I'll send the program. It's written in VB so you'll need the VB runtime files installed (if you are running Mamewah you already have them - he has them for download on his site).

You also need:

The Advmng.exe util from AdvanceComp package - look on the AdvanceMame webpage.

VirtualDubMod - its on sourceforge, just google for it or I'll send a link.

At the moment it creates avi's using the Xvid codec, so you need that on your system too. This is hardcoded, but if you give me a good reason to include another codec I will. ;-)

Alrighty, time to resurrect this thread.  Silver's program works wonders.  Now I'm looking for a prog that can take the title mng's and the in-game mng's and combine the two.

It'd be nice to find something that can work from a command line stance so that I can create a batch file with all the files in it and let it go to town.

Anybody got any ideas?

Hmmm - I wish you luck. I failed miserably finding programs that could do anything that useful to the mng's in the crashtest pack. The best by far was the advmng.exe in the advanceComp pack (part of advancemame) - the one used by my program (which is a glorified batch program really...)

In theory you could use advmng.exe to unpack all the mngs (or the title and the in-game and use something like virtualdub or virtualdub mod to build avi's using both the wavs....

...Woops! just realised of course that you have already converted these to avi (stupid of me!) so in fact all you need is an avi joiner, of which I'm sure there are loads that work. I'm sure plain old virtualdub can do it for you, and it supports a command line for batch file usage. Worth taking a look I reckon....

Personally I've given up on the mng packs, and have used Buddabings movie maker to let mame make its own .... for most of the games at least...

Buddabings looks great, but I just haven't had the patience to actually sit down and figure it out.  At least with your interface, I can figure out what needs to be done and let it go to town.

Turns out the title mngs are done in the same audio speed as the in-game mngs, thus virtualdub throws up.

not quite making sense to me. Surely once converted to avi they are same type/speed/compression?

The audio isn't strangely enough.  Dunno why but it complains.  I'm using default settings, but it may be that I tried the titles on a different machine than the in-games.  The in-games are nearly done so I'll have to try it on that PC and see what happens.
