Boycott NFL! Boycott Superbowl!
« on: January 27, 2005, 08:31:26 pm »
the evil nfl has sold out. first they go to some socialist crap salary cap which the patriots prove doesn't work, and now they receive a boatload of money in exchange for an exclusive deal! the only remedy is to teach these capitalist pig corporations to say no to free money!

I'm going to go one up on your boycott idea.

I'm going to buy into various pools, bet on the outcome, and spend money on various non-official-NFL-sponsor snacks.

I also will wear my non-officially-licensed NFL jersey.

After the Supper Bowl (the NFL will probably see this post and crack down on you if they see you referring to it as the "Super" bowl, as they hold the rights...I'd change it to "Supper" quick, otherwise your fine will go right into their coffers, defeating your boycott) I WILL be purchasing another jersey, though, and unfortunately, it can be nothing but the real deal....actually, the purchase will be put off until pre-season next year upon my visit to Lambert (sic) Field..

P.S. I think we, being a predominantly male-oriented board, shouldn't stand for societey's "standard" term, and bend it to suit OUR various whims.

I say we drop that sexist "boycott", and instead, have ourselves a "girlcott"....or a "girl-on-a-cot"  ;D

I'm going to watch the game, the ads, and buy many NFL endorsed snacks, beer, and products with the 2005 Champion Patriots logo on them.

Immediately following the game I'm going to party outside Gillette Stadium.  I'm going to get drunk(er), buy sausages and eat them.  I am going to celebrate the Super Bowl and the Patriots.

Now that sounds like a great plan (even though I'm a Steelers fan)!!  Especially the beer and drunk parts!!!

Local man is arrested after randomly celebrating throughout the crowd and, in his words "listening to all these damn commies ruin my fun with their wish that the Patriots would have run against Bush in the last election" kicking several other fans in the groinal area.  Immediate details are not yet known as to why he was choosing this tactic over a regular knock-down drag-out brawl.  More to follow.

It'll never happen.  Well, at least in MA, anyway.  Unless he digs Bush for the Lefty stuff he does, and Brady's actually a lefty too, he'll have to go somewhere else and make a run for it.

I hear New York seems to have pretty lax standards for how long you have to live there before running for an elected office there.  Mebbe he can talk to Hitlery and get some pointers  ;D

MA is swinging right.  Ted the Fathead has to die sooner or later, and the Governor (R) is getting more and more support recently...

Of course, if MA politics hold right, he's just going to leave soon to run for President.

I'm gonna digitize the Superbowl edit OUT the commercials,

First, you'll have to receive written permission of the NFL to obtain it,

This will be hard to do since you are going to
Quote
up load it to the web for everyone... and charge for it.

Why do you think they go after radio stations when they hold promos giving away tickets to the Super Bowl?  They enforce EVERYTHING that will get them money.

It's why people aren't watching Soccer.  They like the packaging the NFL puts Football in.  It's why the NBA is going right down the friggen tubes, why MLB is becoming more and more irrelevant....marketing.  Oh, and pricing the "average" fan so far out of the market while paying overpaid spoiled brats who think they're God's gift to the world, and expressing shock when regular people are outraged when they go into the stands after the guy who feels that paying triple what the ticket is WORTH entitles him to throw a cup...A FRIGGEN CUP OF WATER....at the overpaid "talent".

Woops.  That kinda went off track there.   :-[

Of course, if MA politics hold right, he's just going to leave soon to run for President.

Doesn't MA have a history of electing republicans to the governor's office and dems to pretty much every single other office?  If so I would tend to question the overall affect Mitt is having on MA politics.  I don't live there, though, so maybe I'm wrong.

I don't think a Mormon could get elected President any time in the near future, though.  Too many people still regard them as weirdos (which, frankly, they are) with multiple wives.

...and so on.

I was sitting here thinking "what does your post mean?  Are you bragging because you're a football player?  Are you trying to make a joke?  What should I take from it?"

Then I realized, no matter how you slice it, you simply missed everything that was stated in my post, and simply need to re-read it.  THEN if you still don't get it, I'll have to make fun of you for being a "football player".    ;D

Well, I was a football player until very recently, so blah.  Of course, I was never paid, either.

I totally get what you said about pricing out the average fan.  I live 5 minutes from Gillette Stadium, during an NFL dynasty, and am a huge fan.  I make an excellent living and STILL can't afford to get into the stadium to see a game.  Who wants to pay $35 to park five minute from their house?  Who can pay $400 to take their family to a 3 hour event?

Since the only football I've ever watched are the highlights on Sportscenter when I'm waiting for the sports I like to come on, I'll gladly join your boycott (or girlcott).

As a side note, I still can't understand why people get so excited about the commercials during the superbowl.  I mean, they're commercials...  those same things you skip every other day, or use for bathroom breaks.

For me to go to a Packer game, it's FAIRLY reasonable, if I don't eat or drink anything  :-\

I just recently went to my first NBA game in over a dozen years, because my buddy got us free tickets for donating blood at his place of employment (large sponsor of the team locally, so I'm betting they are corporate tickets they get a huge break on anyway).

The tickets we had were for (and I checked the price afterwards, what I, joe average fan would pay) seats 30 rows away from the court (I counted - it's the OCD) and they cost NINE-TEE DOLLARS!  ::) ::) ::)

The friggen game lasts 3 hours.  THREE FRIGGEN HOURS!  My buddy and I are cheap sons-o-beaches, so if we were going, we'd have been getting the nosebleed seats (which in this case, truly ARE nosebleed seats - think 3 stories up) which I also priced.  $25.  And we've sat there before for other things less expensive (hockey).  We figured since we got free tix, we'd live it up a little and get drinks.  I truly thought for $7, I'd have gotten two beers, but I'm still living in 1980, I guess  ::)

We didn't park across the street from the arena, which is what noobs do (you're trapped in a parking structure for at least an hour after the game if you do), even though the parking would have been cheap - $15.

The knobs playing the game don't get the parking money here, which makes me feel a LITTLE bit better about paying for parking, but these guys wonder why they get drinks thrown at them....it's because us dumb guys are blowing off the family for a night out with a buddy - BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE OUR FAMILIES!  We sit and get drunk with each other and act like we're in high school again.  And we pay for that priveledge.  Through the nose.

At least if I go to an NFL game in my state it's a BIT more reasonable.  Not reasonable to take my entire family, but someday, when they're older, yes.  I simply can't fathom spending that kind of money on something that frivolous and also have to watch and mind my kids, while wondering who's watching and minding the drunken idiots around me.

Getting free or reduced tickets is the only way my family goes to ANY sporting event anymore, unless it's minor league stuff (IHL hockey, minor league baseball, and we've got local team football here too).  I checked into tickets when the playoffs started for the Super Bowl.  Those tickets aren't worth HALF of what they want for them.  Football seems to be the only sport nowadays that even cares about its image in the eyes of the fans, which is why it's the only sport I choose to watch anymore.  All the other major sports could take a GIANT tip from NASCAR and how it caters to its fans, and the NFL to a lesser degree.  And I don't even LIKE NASCAR!

Feels good to get that out....it's been bottled up too long :D

Minor league baseball rocks.  I love getting tickets behind the dugout for $8.

It's like when I used to go to school a couple of hours from Montreal, and we would go see the Expos once in a while.  I remember getting tickets to sit a row behind the Cardinals dugout during Mark McGwire's home run chase for $20 US...  Other nights we got bleacher tickets for about $7 US.  Plus the beer was cheap and Canadian.  A poor college kid's dream.

actually i don't think you can buy nascar seats for under $50. and the good seats are usually $100+. i also suppose it depends on the track.

That's true, at least in Richmond.  My girlfriend had to go for a grad school class one time (don't ask), and even the truck series tickets were like $30-$40.  That wasn't even the main race.

richmond's pretty popular track i think. trucks and busch races are really good value compared. usually free parking plus lower attendance which means you get awesome seats if you're willing to pay a few more dollars than general admission. and a lot of the cup guys race in the busch series from time to time. also the busch grand north practically gives away tickets. and rent a scanner at the track, it'll increase your enjoyment tons (even if you leave it on the radio/tv brtoadcast) - especially when it seems like nothing is happening.

From what I've heard, the Expos WERE a pretty good minor league team! ;) ;D

Yes indeedy, NASCAR tix are pretty expensive.  The difference between 'em is the way NASCAR caters to its fans, the extent to which they'll go for 'em, and the way they MAKE the guys accessible, and the way the "athletes" (drivers) realize the reason they have a job is specifically BECAUSE of the fans - and their subsequent genuine-seeming displays of gratitude towards their "employers" (us fans and our hard-earned scratch)

Yeah, I live right near the Pawtucket Red Sox... great place to go, cheap  tickets, family friendly place, free parking.

When I lived near Fenway I used to get cheap Bosox tickets all the time... I used to just walk over to the stadium and see who was trying to dump their tickets at the last second.  Of course, that only works if you don't have to travel in for 90 minutes because it didn't always work.
