Woohoo!  Now,  it's all good and such, except there are some games that are not in catver and are of obvious adult nature.  I still run across a couple of them with nudity... I want to get rid of them, but will have to do it manually.  Oh well

Be sure and go to Retroblast.com to download the mcm.ini file in the download section.  The mcm.ini file can help identify roms to delete or rename by languages, mature games, and game categories.  I can add year of game and or mame version, if there is any interest, to the new mcm.ini file.

Which catver.ini are you using?  The one at catver.com, or the one at http://www.mameworld.net/catlist/ ?

Is mcm.ini better than the catlist file?  Asides from language selection, does the mcm.ini give you anything else over catver.ini?  Does mcm.ini work with Mamewah?

Just like the catlist file, I see that mcm.ini lists "sos" as a mature game.  It's from 1979, so I can't imagine it could graphically display anything
mature.

any mature details.  Only thing I could think of is if it would display
mature text, but I haven't seen any.  Does anyone know why this game has been blacklisted, or is it just a mistake?

I've got a SOS update from TriggerFin (the catlist maintainer).  He reports:
"As for SOS, it is hard to believe, and I can't play well enough to see the pictures, but it includes a dipswitch to turn "nudity" on and off.  Supposedly if you last long enough you get a low-res "reward."".

So I guess SOS isn't the sweet innocent game I thought it was.

  Yes.  You can choose the category and then delete the files or "archive" them.  It's simple enough to archive them and then use the archived files as you rmain folder to get only one category.

I'll look back and see if I find them again mostly it is some of the combo games that have one of the options being one with an adult (nudity) game

I still wish there was an easy way to sort by controller type.  I have a 8-way and two buttons.  I use advance mame/menu and really don't have a good alternative to get rid of games with more buttons.  Any suggestions are more than welcome.

[I've gotta be honest... although I appreciate anyone who does work for this community and I think that censoring adult roms out is a worthy cause, this utility never has had any legitimate purpose unless the fe you are using is "old and busted". 

It may not be useful to you, but it is definitely useful to me and anyone else who has kids that may get curious and snoop around the Mame directories.  FE filtering doesn't help this at all.  There may be ways to lock down your computer so you can't get out of the FE, but this would require a lot of work (and if your kid knows more about computers than you, it may be impossible ).  MCM is quick and easy to use, so it's still a win.

I use Mamewah and I find it simpler to delete the roms once with MCM instead of manually deselecting them each time I create a new filtered category.

Lastly it's true that updating Mame may be more difficult, but many people rarely, if ever, update Mame.  I personally don't plan on updating Mame for many years.  This is an acceptable trade off for me.

I agree with you that most FE's allow for this, but I don't want the ROMs to be available at all for two reasons:

1)  As kids get older, they learn how to hack (at least I hope so).  I want to make it as difficult for them as possible to see the adult games at home.

2)  I don't want to waste space on games I will never play.  Majhong games are an example, but also others that are not my cup of tea...

I am happy enough rerunning MCM with every release (I usually skip 3-5 releases between updates).  It only takes a little bit, and I know what I have in the end

Now I just need to find some time to flag the ones that are missing from catver...

I don't believe in deleting / moving roms based on content due to simple archival purposes.  When it comes time to update your rom set, it's quite difficult to keep from re-downloading the same adult roms over and over as romcenter and clrmamepro don't support said filtering. ..

Romcenter may not support said filtering but it does support multiple rom directories.  I just keep the unwanted roms in a seperate directory and have Romcenter scan both.  That way, for simple archival purposes, I can tell if I have a complete set or not.

Of course use what you want to, but be aware that there are other options out there, many of which are simpler, don't require additional software, and don't depend on some guy updating a database.  (Except for the catlist, but it's regularly and promptly updated.)

As always, I appreciate the info you've provided (maybe I will update Mame one of these years).  FE filtering does sound like a good option for some, but I still prefer my MCM.  Just FYI, MCM doesn't need its own database, it uses the same catlist that the FE's use.  There is a mcm.ini file on retroblast, but as far as I can tell it just adds more categories (like language) to the standard catlist file.  I use the standard catlist file because I know it works with everything.
