composite/rf out to RGB
« on: January 15, 2005, 11:10:32 pm »
I'd like to interface a Commodre 64 to my arcade cab (as well as a MAME PC).

How do most people with multiple systems swap back and forth in their cabs?  Molex connectors for video, audio, and controls?

More importantly, there is no RGB output for the commodore (that I know of).  That leaves me with either an RF output or a composite video output.  How do I decode this signal into RGB and sync for my arcade monitor?

How do I tell if I need composite sync or seperate vertical and horizantal?

Thanks!
Bill

Good to see another C64 user on the boards. Monty on the run rocks!!!

From what I know, theres no way to interface a composite video output to go into a arcade monitor. There are cards that you can use to interface the monitor with a pc, but not a standard  composite output. Would be cool if you could though.

You might have to just use an emulator like CCS64 or something. It runs roms from the command line, so you should be able to configure it with a front end.

Use a J-Pac & Arcade VGA to interface the PC to the Arcade Machine...
The use some sort of vieo capture card/USB device to display anything you want through a full-screen viewer on your PC.

To use the Composite input, turn on your PC, hook up your other device to the Composite "IN" jack on your selected video input device on the PC, Start up the video device's software in full-screen mode & play away!

I know I'm simplifying things a bit, but this is would be a viable route... Although it will cost 2-3 hundred for the hardware (J-PAC, Arcade VGA, & Video capture device)

Good Luck!

You could also use a cheap tv card that has video in on it, I use one on my main pc for PS2 games & it works really well
