In one of my MAME cabs, I'm using an old PC running DOS (DOS 7 rip) and dmame. I had to load a VESA video driver to get the video working, and tested using a PC monitor. I found that the best resolution for vertical games is 400x300 (VESA doesn't have a x288 mode).
The problem is that when I connected the PC inside the cab to the installed WG 13K7801 monitor, I can't use the 400x300 mode. The screen looks like two side-by-side pictures, almost white and faded. I found that I have to use either 512x384 (making the game tiny on screen) or 360x240 (cutting off part of the game screen). These are the only worthwhile VESA modes available.
Is it possible to get the 400x300 mode working? Since the monitor can support higher res's, is it just a matter of picking a different refresh rate or vertical rate or whatever? And if it is possible, what software would I need to accomplish it (e.g. AdvanceMame, different video drivers ).
If a screenshot is needed, I'll get one upon request.
And if anyone has a copy of the manual for this monitor, that would be great, too. I did a web search and didn't find anything which seems to support this monitor. I only found 7XXX manuals, and they don't have anything which discusses the VGA compatibility of the 7801.
Thanks.
