I did some searches into the culture of the affected areas and I couldn't find anything that recorded tsunami type events in their history.

I thought that was odd considering that the entire geological area is the result of similar activity and it would be a case of history repeating itself.

Based on the photo, perhaps it's not inconceivable to consider stories were not passed on because nobody survived to tell........  ???

BB--as unfortunate as that sounds I don't think you are that far off the mark--also, if they weren't writing their history but instead passing it orally then it is even more fragile.

I have read one web document that postulated southeast asia was the location of atlantis--it got some brief attention but faded into all the other theories.
