List generation sometimes puts "horizontal" where it should be "vertical". ASTROF is one example. The game is 240x240.

You can alter this with the correct_orientations setting (mamewah.ini)...set to:

'no' to leave as per MAME,
'horizontal' to list 1:1 games as Horizontal,
'vertical' to list 1:1 ratio games as Vertical.

Anything other than 'no' will also correct MAME's 'wrong' orientations.  I added this option to get maximum results (ie filtering) when using a monitor with fixed orientation.  I never really understood why MAME has 'wrong' orientations anyway - did some of the original games have the screen around the 'wrong' way compared to their resolution??

MAME's orientations are wrong for some games? I never noticed any games flipped on their sides or anything like that.

They don't have to be, but they can be incorrectly listed as horizontal/vertical (I don't know why).  See 'mame -wrongorientation' - I don't actually understand what this means exactly...I haven't been through the games to check.

Seems to me that orientation and resolution should be independent. Can't you have a 240x224 game that is vertical?

Well yes :)  But lets make an example: I use a horizontal screen, so lets l might want to display purely horizontal games, or more realistically games which will display well on a horizontal screen (as a rule games whose pixel width is greater than height) .  So based on your 240x224 vertical example above, this would be filtered out of my horizontal games list - BUT, it would display fine (arguable perhaps on how much of a purist you are) on a horizontal screen.  So, for this example this game would be best listed (for me) as horizontal, so it is not filtered out.

That alone is the reason I added this option - basically to maximise hits when filtering on orientation.  Granted I might be alone in my thinking here, but you can turn it off as I say :)

I was checking out  MAMEWAH Config (great addition to a great front end  ;D) and ran accross the following error (see error.jpg) when selecting tools --> game list editor.

I'm running this on an XP sp2 machine that's barely configured, mame's not configured and I have no roms on this system.   I do have a dummy mame .ini that I was using.

Once I click continue I receive a blank application (see blank.jpg).  I then have click file --> quit or x out the application (bad short term memory  ;D) because I don't remember what I changed.

This issue is probably due to not having this system properly configured, but thought the error wasn't very graceful.  Wanted pass it on.

Thanks,
