MameWAH & ZiNc
« on: January 10, 2005, 02:42:14 pm »
Im not getting very far trying to get ZiNc working with MAMEWAH.  I have downloaded a wrapper from www.oscarcontrols.com/lazarus that is configured for ZiNc but not for MAMEWAH.

Ive been trying to get it to work but to avail.  Ive no doubt ill crack it in the end, but if anyone can save me the stress id be really grateful.  Using the DAT file supplied in the package i expect to get the same ROM information displayed in MAMEWAH as the MAME roms get, which would be cool.  I really want to get ZiNc working because the MAME emulation of these games is kinda bad.

Make sure you have list_generation_method set to rom_folder_vs_dat_file or dat_file, and Generate the List.

Im quite confused now.  The log file reports this:

10/01/2005 21:06:35 c:\dos\zinc\wrapper\wrappers\CMDLAU~1\CMD-LA~1.EXE TECHROMN

Clearly not what I was aiming for.  I have generated the games list though by using the DAT_FILE option and pointing the DAT field to the file.  The list isn't what i expected either, as its bought all the ZiNc supported games across and ive only got 4 on my machine at the moment!

Is ZiNc not an emulator used by many people out there?

I used the rom_folder_vs_dat_file instead and that gave me a list that matches my rom folder.

In short... not to be rude, but read my docs and learn how to use the wrappers.

You never put the full path, in the lconfig.ini... Why would you as it and the wrapper have to be in the same folder as the emulator?  Btw, that is your problem.  It's quite obvious from that log file that you are trying to run the wrapper from the default folder it's in rather than copying it and the lconfig to the zinc directory as you should.   This is all covered in my online documentation on my site.  It is written for dk/lazarus but the same universal setup applies.

The package says it's pre-configured for zinc, that means aside from the setup in your favorite fe you don't touch the lconfig.ini.

In mamewah's debug output you should indeed see it launching cmd-launch#.exe romname.   I mean duh, the whole point of the wrapper is you send normal command lines to it and it translates them for you.

I apologize if this comes out to harshly, but the fact the not only you, but you with the aid of minwah couldn't figure this off right off the bat as I did greatly disappoints me.  The only reason I didn't respond earlier is the heard the words that send chills down my spine ("with MAMEWAH") and decided to leave it to minwah's capable hands.   ;)

Yeah I should know better...but I haven't used ZiNc or your wrapper for literally years, I'd forgotten how it all works to be honest  :-\

Fair enough, i should have read your documentation.  To be honest i expected it to be in the wrapper package if there was going to be any.  Ive just checked your site and found it.  Ill go through it - thanks.

And why has no-one used ZiNc for years!? Its a great emulator! (isn't it?)

It's good alright, and many others use it...I only use MAME tho.

That really surprising to hear when you've obviously put so much time into a multi emu front-end.  I spose a full ROM set for MAME is just about all you really need though.

Except that MAME runs games like Street Fighter EX, EX2, and EX2P slow as hell, not to mention Ehrgiez, Plasma Sword, just to name a few.

I'm not a fan of the PSX style hardware - it looks pretty horrible imo (in 3d anyway)  :P

Actually I lied slightly, I do have Fusion & Zsnes too, but I hardly ever use them (I have a handful of games and not even any screenshots).
