light gun & wells gardner D9200?
« on: January 09, 2005, 07:35:59 pm »
Is there a light gun out there that will work with the wells gardner D9200 monitor?  I purchased the act labs gun before I built my mame machine last year and unfortunately it is not compatible with my monitor.  Do any guns work with this monitor?

A Note about the WG-D9200 and the ArcadeVGA card

I had a number of emails before writing this review asking about the compatibility of light guns with either the WG-D9200 arcade monitor or the Ultimarc ArcadeVGA card

I must have the latter card and setup because my act-labs gun works fine.

Confirmed information with Andy at Ultimarc regarding the board revision and he suggested contacting Wells Gardner directly about possibly getting the new board from them as he said they are aware of the conflict.  Just shot them an email and hopefully I will get good news back.  Thanks for the info guys.

Just got all the information straight from a tech at Wells Gardner.  He agreed that the interface board is the problem.  If you have this monitor with revisions A,B,or C, the light gun will not work.  The revision D interface board is just the old boards with slight mods done to it, and the revision E interface board has all of the fixes already done to it at the factory.  By the way, if you are looking at the backside of your monitor chassis, this interface board is located on the right hand side.  To check which revision you have, you will need to unscrew two bolts that are attached to a bracket that holds the board onto the chassis.  You will then be able to turn the board around and locate the info that you need.  When I went to the Wells Gardner site I was able to order the part that I needed to fix my problem.  The part is PN279200 Neck Board (includes interface board PI279201 with revision E)  Part was $50 + shipping.
Hope everyone can benefit from this info.

You should take pictures before and after the board modifications to document them for other WG-D9200 owners.

Well, bad news folks.  Recieved the new revision board for my monitor and installed it.  Everything on my machine still works fine like before, but the light gun still does not work.  I installed it numerous times with the same results.  It seems like the monitor is picking up some kind of flash when I pull the trigger, but no shots register.  I will occaisonally here the sound of a reload, but thats it.  I have tried to calibrate the gun also, with no change.  One strange thing that I have found is that when I try to enable the light gun icon on the mamewah frontend the button depresses, but doesn't actually highlight like when you depress the mouse icon on the frontend to enable the trackball function.  (Hope that made sense)  I wish someone that knew what they were doing was standing here right now!  Seems like the only way that I'm going to get a gun working is if I get my hand gun out and shoot my machine!  HELP!!!

Have you tried to play the little cheap game that come on the Act-Labs CD.  If you see the curser move and can shoot the aliens then you are good.  When I wasn't sure if mine was working I tested it on that game and determined that the gun worked right but my mame settings were off.

Enabeling the lightgun in mame.ini and setting player 1 button 1 to left mouse click worked for me.

Have you tried your lightgun without arcadevga.  mine works fine, but I'm using a PNY TI 4600.
