WG K7193 Help!

Ok, power up the monitor and nothing. Check the fuses, and sure enough the 3A 250V fuse is blown. Replaced the fuse and power up........fuse blows

Any thoughts on why this is happening? Thanks for all the help and advice!

Whoa! Hold on thar. That monitor is supposed to have a 2 amp slo-blo fuse not a 3 amp.

Common causes of blown fuses on the chassis are:

Shorted horizontal output transistor

Shorted flyback transformer

Shorted capacitor C36

Either one or ALL of the above.

First, thanks for all the help Ken!!

Ok, so I took the chassis out and removed C36 and checked it......not shorted!

Took out Q11 (HOT), and checked it with my ohms meter. Results:

B-E (+ on B): 51 Ohms
B-E (- on B): 51 Ohms

B-C (+ on B): 1.78M Ohms
B-C (- on B): Open

C-E (+ on E): 1.78M Ohms
C-E (- on E): Open

I take it that the Base to Emitter junction is shorted, causing my fuse to blow......is this a correct analysis of the above?

Thanks again for the help!!

Jim

yep i would say so--another trick ken taught me--if you suspect the flyback, remove it and temporarily power the chassis--if the fuse doesn't blow, the flyback is bad.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...
