seperating a rom file?
« on: January 08, 2005, 12:01:36 pm »
 ???
Say I've  got a rom file,1 zip file, but it shows up as several different versions of the same game, for example, asian, hispanic, jap,US.Is there a program that will split these up into indvidual roms so I can pick which one I want to use,I don't want to see all these duplicate versions listed in my from end.

So what you're saying is that you have a merged ROMset, and you just want the one particular?

Get ClrMAME Pro, set it to rebuild split sets, then drag/drop the set on the window.  You'll have a split ROM set, then pick which one you want.

Word of warning: you'll need the parent ROMset no matter what you do.

I did play with that program a little,I managed to get them to split but like you said the individual roms won't work by themselves,so what good is it?I want to pick the US version rom only without all the other garbage versions showing up in my frontend menu.

when you say you need the parent romset do you mean the original rom I tried to split? because then all the other versions will still show?

The parent ROM set is usually the biggest set out of them.  It has the base game data, as well as the data from a particular region.

If you don't want other sets showing in your frontend list, just remove those listings.

The frontend I'm using is Ultrastyle, turns out the option I want is built right into its filtering options,so it will only show the US version. The documentation for this frontend is not the greatest but the writer Chris is good for answering questions and this is the best frontend I've found to date for what I want.
