Rasterbater!
« on: January 07, 2005, 07:37:44 pm »
http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

Its a site where you upload an image and it vectorizes it, enlarges it to a specified size, re-rasterizes it, and saves it as a color or black and white pdf file.

That would be pretty cool for a large image on the wall of your game room.

huh...so now the question is what to rasterbate....

actually, if you were wanting to see if something looked good on your cab before you pent millions to have it printed up specially, you could just raster it up and print it out...if you've got the time, and you should if you have a hobby like this.

I tried this out, and it is pretty cool.

Keep in mind, it does not simply enlarge you picture.  The images that come back in the pdf are a series of pages covered in large dots.  The farther away you stand, the better they look.  Looking through their forums, it appears that a lot of people don't understand this part.

I sent in this:

When you open the .pdf, the pages look like this:

Have you printed and mounted all the pages together?  I looked at a lot of the pics on their website.  Some are pretty cool.  I like the ones where each page is mounted slightly away from the other giving you the effect of looking thru a window screen.

i made one of the metal slug that i plan on making my sideart, and it looks alright.  i made it 70 inches tall to see how it would look as sideart and how wide it would be.  it looks okay from 5 feet away, but it is just alot of black dots.  i think it would be good thing if you wanted to see what your going to get, but as art, you'd have to be into the dot thing...

i'd shoot up a pic of it, but i don't have a digital camera.  oh, and mine came out on 49 pages, and it took me 2 and a half hours to cut it all out with scissors.

I've seen those ASCII generators online, but not one that did color.

Yes, I did put two of them together.  I carefully trimmed and aligned the pages so that there are no lines.  The Porsche 917 is on the wall behind my slotcar track.  I also did a Donald Duck and it is on the wall in the babies room.

Personally I think the "window' effect looks like they were too lazy to do it right.

I'll take a couple pictures of them tomorrow.

Can you believe there is a local guy who has a couple of thos 917s, at least one of them is an original that raced (and possibly completed?) LeMans.  Rich guy, if you couldn't guess.

Wade,

I can beleive it.  The 917's were great cars and the dominated the world of endurance racing in the early 70's until the rules were changed limiting engine size.  Then they went on to dominate Can Am racing in an open top version.  There are quite a few of them still around.
