28 X 15 Marquee, Need suggs.
« on: January 05, 2005, 03:11:34 pm »
I'm at a loss for ideas on what direction to take with my marquee.  It's a little unusual in that it's quite a bit larger than the average marquee.  The size of the marquees viewable area is a whopping 27.5" x 14.5".  With so much potential with such a large area I want to come up with something really nice.

Have a look at the cab if you wish.

Thats gonna be tough, since the cabinets design is a bit unusual. I had a similar problem with my Gauntlet II cab. I resolved the problem by installing 2, 6" speakers to provide sound, and then just put 2 wicked looking speaker grills on to give it an edgy-metal flare. Maybe something like this.....

You could then just put a regual size marquee beneath (or above it).
Signature tags are dumb.

The speakers are located between the monitor and the Marquee beneath a metal grill that goes all the way across.  Quite clean looking accually.  I dont think I will be putting any speakers up there.   Maybe a flat Lcd screen to shoot thru all of the marquees of the selected game that is playing would be super nice but that would be a little bit past my knowledge.

As for the history of the cabinet I found it in the local newspaper.  They had 3 for sale for $450 bucks.  I bought this one for $88 bucks with everything working.  It just looked like a good cabinet that could be converted.  It had a game called Numan Athletics in it.  Not that fun of a game.

The cab was in great shape, the monitor works fine.  No Dings or scratches.  The sides (Which didnt show up good in my pictures) are covered in a counter top material (Formica?).  Very slick looking and scratch resistant.  I made the custom control panel by borrowing ideas from this sites Examples pages.  I also  bought new T-moulding for it (it had this bright green T-moulding.  Yuck) and wired it all up to an old computer that I had.

I think I came out with a lucky, cost friendly find.  The only extra money I spent was for the controls, T-moulding, plexi, and black laminate for the control panel.

that's a hell of a deal and an awesome looking cab...maybe you could do a more traditional size marquee centered between some sort of light display - just a thought ot you could sell me the whole thing for $100...either way :P

Have an LCD monitor installed which scrolls through tons of various marquees.

Yes Kraw's cabinet is very nice.  Looks quite expensive.  I wonder who made his marquee?

Anyways, this was my first project.  I'm sure that I will redesign the CP later on after I figure out what I like and dislike.
