Pixel Clock ?
« on: January 05, 2005, 12:52:27 pm »
I am fine tuning my monitor (see specs below) and am using advmame.

I want to verify my video settings for the variables below.

pclock is not commonly listed in specs...typical setting is 5-90
so...

device_video_pclock 5-90
device_video_hclock 15.75
device_video_vclock 47-63

Pclock is the conversion factor the graphics card uses to know how long each pixel is in nanoseconds. 10MHz -> each pixel is 100ns.

The monitor does have a bandwidth which limits how fast the intensity can change but normally the bandwidth is not a limiting factor (horizontal resolution is).

In short. The upper limit for the pclock can be anything since you will hit the horizontal resolution limit of the monitor before the pclock has any effect. The lower limit is determined by how low the graphics card can go. Most cards can go down to 7MHz and some even lower.
