Would a "charge back" lock my checking?
« on: January 04, 2005, 06:57:02 pm »
I think a guy that bought a load of comics from me did a charge back through PayPal.

Would this be why my checking account is locked up?

I bank at a credit union so there isn't a human I can talk to until 9am there.

The odd thing is, the comic purchase was like $70 and I have $800 (unavalable) in positive funds. Available shows $0.

Anyone else get PayPal screwed like this, or do you think these are unrelated events?

Should not do that.  Did you just deposit a large personal check in the last day or so (~ $800)?  Checks that are deposited don't have to be available for up to 5 days I believe.  Can't see Paypal doing that but one never knows.

did you have the $70 in your paypal account for them to pull or did they have to go to your bank account. i would think of your balance in terms of $800 with only $70 available. i would guess check too.

I get paid every two weeks, direct deposit,  so there is a mix of money in there that should all be available.

I will call the credit union in the a.m. and find out what is going on. I am probably bouncing checks all over Phoenix, as my bills are all "auto-pay".
LOL

Paypal can and will lock you out of funds that they have access to. I'd never give them access to my bank account.

Yeah turns out that's exactly what happened.

I am about over these cork sniffers.

My Credit Union says it was them, and they say, "for customer service press 4 now....I'm sorry....I do not understand your response.".

The thing that really sucks, is this guy GOT his comics, and is keeping them.

So not only do I not get paid, but I also get a lovely bonus $20 fee for every check that bounces this week. So it will cost ME $140 to give this clown the entire run of E-Man.

This might call for a road trip.  Just to be clear, rape is an act of violence not a sex act, so what happens next doesn't make me gay.

Do you have any money in your savings that could cover the overdrafts?  My CU will pull $ from savings in the event of my checking going negative.  They run checks once per day (I believe) and will draw from savings after that only once to cover any number of checks that might have caused a negative balance.  Is a $2 fee per time they do this but is better than the $25 they charge otherwise.   Not that I would know any of this firsthand, being the careful checkbook balancer that I am. ;)

just curious if paypal asked you for proof of shipment before doing the chargeback? i would complain to your CU and say paypal did an illegal withdrawal and contest that charge. haven't sold stuff on ebay for a while but i would make sure i did priority mail and delivery confirmation for paypal shipments.

No the first sigh I got that anything was wrong was that checks started bouncing and a paypal payment I sent showed as "declined". I am closing the account tomorrow and going to Bank of Amerika.
