Controls won't work after XP upgrade
« on: January 03, 2005, 11:31:34 pm »
I just upgraded to Windows XP Home and now none of my controls, which are hooked up with an IPAC4 work.  It appears that the drivers are still there, etc., but they do nothing.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Drivers?  You shouldn't need any for an IPAC4.  Are you using PS2 or USB connection?

I don't know how an IPAC works, but here is an idea:

Check to see if Windows changed the naming labels of your IPAC's input commands. For example: maybe MAME is lookng for label "J1_X+" while Windows has this registered as "J1_JOYSTICK_RIGHT". You can do this with MAME by firing up a game and accessing the "input general" screen. Enter a new keystroke command to the list and compare the label with the old one.

If the IPAC is registered as a gamepad you could also check if the controller ID has changed.

Good luck!

The IPAC is seen as a keyboard, therefore the best test is to fire up notepad (or similar) and see if you are getting any keystroke output.

Tried everything again, still  no luck.  In Notepad I get nothing out of the controls at all.  Tried uninstalling the USB driver, replugging, computer reinstalls driver or whatever, says it's installed and functioning fine--still nothing.

Tried watching the ipac during boot up and see no LED light described in the ultimarc website--I got the ipac used, so not sure how old it is, but I don't see an LED anywhere on it.

The ipac worked fine until the upgrade to XP, now, nothing at all.  AARRGH!

Do you have anything else that is USB to test that the USB drivers are actually installed properly  XP.  Can you use the keyboard while it is plugged into the ipac pass-thru?

Plugged the keyboard into the pass-through and the keyboard works fine, so all seems to be working, except the ipac!
