[OT] Avatars?
« on: January 03, 2005, 06:15:14 pm »
Just curious as to where some of you guys are getting video clips for your avatars?  You making them yourself, or, is there a good site to go to to snag them from?
Thanks

I made mine myself.

HERE is a good site that has a bunch.
There is also a tutorial link on that page to show you how to make your own, if they don't have what you want.

The basics of it are that you take a bunch of screenshots of a game in progress, crop the screenshots, take them into a gif animator, and delete frames until you achieve a good loop.

They aren't actually video clips, they are just animated gifs...

Yes, but what he's getting at is that they had to come from somewhere.  All my avatars were converted from video sources.

Right- I know what they are and how they work- I used to make them all the time. I just want to know where the VIDEO CLIPS are coming from? Is there a site people are downloading avatars from?
Thanks

Don't search for icons...search for video clips.

Then convert them.

Peale's last avatar was very mean.

It reminded me of two facts. First, it has been too long since the last time I got any action, and not one of the girls I've ever been with has looked like THAT.

Not to mention, it stopped at like the worst time possible. I kept hoping it would go on just a little...bit....longer...

I just created my Harley avatar using the following process.

First, this is from an AVI which uses the (obsolete) IBM Ultimotion codec from back in the Win3.1+OS/2 days.  I created a Win32 decoder for it back in 2003.  Both available from http://hobbes.nmsu.edu

Then I used VirtualDub http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net to shrink it down to 80x60 then save the frames as individual TGA files.

Next I used an old, patched, version of Dave's Targa Animator http://all7.com/old_dta.zip to convert them to GIFs with a unified palette.

Finally, I used UnFREEz http://www.whitsoftdev.com/unfreez to convert merge them into a single animated GIF.

Hmm, since it weighs in at over 800K, I may decrease the frame rate.

So there I was thinking to myself, what would be the best way to get the highest amount of members to waste their entire day working on something they may never use again in their life.....IF they even remember how to?
