Come in here and talk about the best NES games
« on: December 30, 2004, 09:01:09 pm »
What are the cream-of-the-crop NES titles? Of course Mario, Metroid, Zelda...Castlevania and Mega-Man (which I never played before and they seem freakin' HARD!).

What are some other must-play NES titles?

A personal fave of mine that was not one of those top names was Blaster Master.

Bionic Commando.  I play it to completion at least 4 times a year.  Every year.  Since 1989.

If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Everyone's forgetting Final Fantasy (the one that started it all).  Also, for some reason I've always loved the Who Framed Roger Rabbit? game.

spiffy, you did not say Back to the Future...  :-\

That game was crap of the highest order.  :o

It hurt me BAD because I'm a huge fan of the movies and was actually stoked they were making a NES game. I rented it and almost died.  :P

It's ok gunstar, Spiffy said JAWS TOO!!! IMO, Jaws was the biggest stinking pile of crap of a game. WTF did those movies have to do with collection conch shells and trying to bomb a shark endlessly with cannonballs flying off the back of a cheezy boat?!?!?!

Same with goonies 2. What the hell was that?  Goonies for the C64 at least slightly resembled the movie, kinda.

Most gamers played a variety of NES games, so we should expect a diverse list.

anyone enjoy MULE? Genghis Khan?  All those text-based strategy games never interested me much.

There was one text based game for the NES that I played (and beat)...

Shadowgate

Fairly simple once you sat and thought out what the object of each area was...

do you mean those point and click adventures?  i was thinking more along the lines of would you like to buy land, food, mules or work?  what do you do with your army today?  i mixed them up.

Super spike volley ball with the double dragon brothers was a great two player title.

I think M.C. Kids is under-rated. Yeah it has a Mcdonalds license on the surface, but the game is really a Super Mario 3 inspired game. The developers managed to copy the SMB3 play mechanics almost EXACLTY the same, so the play control is there. There are lots of interesting play mechanics, like flipping the world gravity upside down, blocks you can pick up and throw around, boats, etc. The game was so much like SMB3 that Nintendo was upset. They forced a few changes to the graphics. That's nuts huh?

NO MORE!!

Haha I played MC kids back when mame.dk was up.  My cousin showed me this like a year and a half ago and just recently I looked at it.  I loved the simple games:  Duck Hunt :)  There was this one game with a level editor where you were a tank and you shot crap around...there were like different terrains, grass, walls, etc.  If anyone remembers, please tell me, I loved that game :'(

techmo super bowl, and rbi baseball, clearly.

yep. my two faves. there's also tons of modified roms and editors available for download to keep the game even more fresh with updated rosters or great teams from the past.

What's the site address??

If you haven't found it yet:

http://www.tecmosuperbowl.com/

I liked the Tecmo Rose Bowl hack.
