ArcadeOS Problems
« on: December 30, 2004, 06:19:12 am »
Hi There,

I have just started to try & use "Fraggal's Mame Installer CD" & after creating a few coasters I finally got it sorted (my fault not the software) however, I cant get any sound from it or any games to run :( - I spent 4 hours last night looking into it (until 4.30am) & have been unable to find much info (although it could just be because I missed it due to the time!!) - does anyone have experience of using this? - or arcadeos?

Cheers

Obvious question: are your sound drivers working correctly?  What is your setup like?

I have not sorted out the drivers yet, but it wont do anything when set to no-sound either

Specs:
Athlon XP 1600
512 (pc2100) DDR
20gig hdd
Syntax motherboard with on board sound (this could be where the problem lies)

Any other info needed?

I don't think so.  Yes, your on-board sound is where the problem lies.  You'll either have to get a seperate sound card with DOS drivers, or find DOS drivers for your sound chip.  And since 99% of chipsets that come out these days don't have DOS drivers (which sucks, but makes sense from a $$ POV) you'll have to pick something up.  Probably like a SoundBlaser 16 PCI card.

With a couple of my classics cabinets, I've been blessed with finding the DOS drivers, so i don't have extra cards hanging off the mounted motherboard.  ATI Rage graphics, Crystal sound, it's a neat setup.  I couldn't do that with a modern board because of the sound drivers.  A lot of onboard video could likely work getting it to 15KHz, but sound...

Cheers for that! - I will give something else a try as a replacement card is not really an option at the moment :( - On the plus side I have now built a cab  ;D
