TrilliumArcade Questions
« on: December 28, 2004, 01:57:27 pm »
Hi all,

I grew up in the old days of Arcades and remember spending countless hours playing these things that we oh so love. I got the Project Arcade book for Christmas this year, after begging the GF for the book and to allow me to build an arcade cabinet for my MAME addiction.

I guess I should fire off some ideas for this cabinet and see what you guys think.

I need to make a cabinet that can fit into my front door and into my "computer" room, and I'd love to be able to roll it out when guests come over, so 2 things:

Width needs to be less than 29.5 inches.
Height can't be higher than 6 feet 4 inches or so.

I was going to go with LuSid's design, but noticed that the control panel was 34 inches wide. But I did notice it has a control panel box. Is that box removable, or how could I make it so it fits within the 29.5 inch barrier? Can the plans be modified to accomodate that?

I sat down and designed the control panel that I liked, and priced out everything I'll need for the project, but the dimensions are what are holding me up.

I plan to build a website build diary and will continue to update on progress there and here.

Just wanted to shout out and say thank you to everyone who helps us newbies make our dream arcade a reality.

you could modify the plans depending on your control panel layout you could make your control panel narrower but be carefull you don't want to make it too crowded....you could also modify it to making the control panel removable by using a molex connection and rigging up some way to lock it down easily....

the best part of building your own cabinet is being able to modify them to your needs....

you may also want to have this post moved to the main page for more feedback since it's a building question.......

good luck with the project :D

Width was a concern of mine too when a friend of mine and I were building another guys cabinet. Aside from the width of the TV, the control panel was the only factor we had to consider. This one is about 31" wide: http://www.integratedrecreation.com/Images/Full%20pictures/ultracontroltopfull.jpg

We started with purchased plans just to make it easier but finally decided we needed to customize it too much and just built it from scratch.

Like mission stated, just modify the dimensions to suit your needs. If you're not good at modifying numbers on a blueprint, you could ask around these forums, there are plenty of builders here.

Good luck!

Use a set of plans for a classic cab instead of plans for the lusid cab. All classic cabs will fit in your size requirements. Most are 25" wide and about 6' tall.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Excellent, thanks for the great feedback.

I've also looked at the MiniMAME plans also, that might work out nice until I get a bigger place for a full-size!

hey,  mine is 22" wide, only 4'9" high, with a 19" pc monitor...posted in the project announcements as the apartment-sized cabinet.

size was the biggest issue during planning for me as well.
