Need help with S-video tv and radeon 7000
« on: December 27, 2004, 09:16:24 pm »
Hi,
Just got a 24" RCA TV with S-video connected to a Radeon 7000 video card with S-video out.
Problem is the TV is garbled when I turn it on (on S-video mode) but when I plug in a monitor along with the TV's S-video  (and monitor can be off) it works great.
I've tried to change the display settings around in the ATI control center, nothing seems to work.

TIA

thomas

You've probably tried this but check the refresh rate for the TV on the control panel and save the profile. I had a similar problem for my 9200SE.

I have S video with radeon 7000 to a 27 inch tv and it works fine. First use you computer monitor to make sure your settings are right, on your dektop right click and go to properties, then its either settings or appearance, then go to advance, there should be a menu that lets u choose a television as your first monitor choice. You do have windows on there already and your radeon driver installed right? before my computer boots to windows and the bios screen is on u cant see the picture snd it shakes, but once windows is booted the picture is good. Also, without your radeon driver cd installed your picture on the tv is either very blurry or wont show up. So make sure all of those things are done and reply back. Tell me how it goes.

Thanks for the replies,
Still having problems  :(
Didn't find the current refresh rate of the TV just the maximum supported (which is 60Hz) in the ATI control panel/Display tab/TV along with Maximum resolution (1024x768).

I tried setting the TV and Monitor to primary display and Clone display and vice versa.

I did try using the 'composite in' on the TV with no monitor and it did work (but has worse image, of course, than S-video).

And also in ATI's control panel tried using the 'Force detect my TV' under the troubleshoot tab...still no go.

I already have windows 98 installed and previously was using a different TV with composite in for my display.
Running ATI catalyst 4.7 (last supported for win98).

Has your TV got a scart socket? if so try taking the S-Video out from the Card into the back of a scart convertor. These can be picked up for a couple of quid from ebay or such. It may not help but this works on mine

I know this is the UK ebay but this is what I mean.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15067&item=5739644557&rd=1

I have a PC and a PS2 connect to a scart switch box so I can change between them that is why I use this.

Also check the latest drivers from ATI for your card as the ones supplied with mine would not work with Windows 98. I downloaded the newest ones and the card worked straight away.

Just for your information I run Windows98 on a duron 1800 with a radeon 9800se connected to a 24" TV and a 21" Monitor.

Just wanted to say that I figured it out  ;)
I connected my pc monitor to the DVI connector (I had an adapter) booted up and selected TV as primary display rebooted without pc monitor and it worked.

Thanks for the help again.
