I got an e-mail from him that was sent at:

Mon, 27 Dec 2004 04:30:15 -0000

That would have been late Sunday night here in the states... I'm not sure exactly what time the Tsunamis hit. Anyone else?

The scale of the destruction caused by Sunday's monster tsunami left governments helpless and groping for succor

I can't find out what time though.

If it was AFTER the Tsunami, he probably would have mentioned that.  Make contact Andy!

Apparently there was no warning... as it was a clear and sunny day

Okay, according to this page:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=28

Bangkok is 7 hours AHEAD of GMT. So, that means the e-mail from Andy was sent at 11:30 AM on Monday, Bangkok time. This was more than a day after the tsunami hit, so I think we can assume he's okay.

I don't know Andy personally, but I had e-mailed him about an order, fully expecting to not hear back until after his vacation. If he was truly in Thailand, it seems plausible that he may have expected to not be checking e-mail at all, but after the Tsunami decided to log on to get a message out to his family that he was okay. While he was on, he responded to my e-mail about my order.

Of course, all of this is just conjecture. Andy will probably have a good laugh at us when he gets back and reads this thread. I don't even know if anyone knows for sure that he's in Thailand.

Glad Andy & Family are OK.  But, bad for me.  I was stocking up on Arcade Vga's to corner the market.

I don't think its a matter of joke. More than 100000 people died and the consequencies for several countries are dramatic. Have you forgotten the tragedy with the terrorist attack to the USA? But now it's the third world that is the victim of a tragedy... and who cares about them? Please be a little more respectful.

The answer would be the United States. About half of all of the money going there, has come from here so far.

It's only fair, they all sent money to help with 911....oh wait..

My American inlaws just left, and they said exactly the same thing while we were watching the devastation on cnn. I had to ask them: "What exactly would you have poor countries send you to help with the destruction of the WTC? They can't exactly bring back those who passed on, and they certainly don't have 'extra' cash to help turn the site into a museum."

They just said "well they should be more grateful (insert pompous sniff here)"

So I'll say to you what I said to them.
