I am new and I know that i need mame of course and you have to buy the roms but after that what programs should I download? or need  to have?

I think the first thing you need to do is go to the main site and start doing some reading.  Also, if you have the means I highly suggest picking up Saint's book.

After reading the site for a bit, start reading some posts on the board.  Start with the stickied posts in the main forum.

After all this, if you have any *specific* questions, feel free to ask.  Assuming it's not answered already in a FAQ, that is.
