Screenshotarchive.com had a page with special versions of GENS and VirtuaNES that added the ability to exit these emus with the press of the ESC key. The website seems to be closed for the moment but maybe someone else can help you there.

Another alternative is to use a command wrapper. It's a utility program that works as a shell between the front end and the emulator. It works much like a DOS Box in window but with one exception: it will monitor your keyboard for the pressing of the ESC key (or equivalent) and will shut down the application for you, returning you to the front end. Command wrappers use a configuration text file that tells it the name of the emulator and what key to use as the exit key, among other things. There are a few command wrappers around. Do a search on this forum for "comand wrapper" and you will find more information on the subject.

Thanks for that info, but right now my main concern is just getting the roms to work in these emulators. In mame32 its just "extract the files to the roms folder" and you are good to go, can anyone give me instructuons on how to set up these emulators?

I don't recall there being any setup to those.  You just run them and open your ROM using the File menu.

Are you having a particular problem with them?
