Super Pac-Man question

I noticed while playing that sometimes the ghosts will all hesitate (stop in their tracks) and their eyes dart back and forth for like 1/2 second. This is normal, correct?

I used this game for some monitor testing and had something really odd happen.I was in the middle of a game and was at the bottom of the screen towards the right side the phone rang so I walked into the other room,came back about and hr later and my pac was still at the bottom running right towards one of the unopened block walls and all four ghost were going around and around in a square pattern and making no attempt to come get me.Let it run for another thirty minutes like this.Not sure if this is some weird glitch but I never saw anything like this before in any pac man game.Sorry not trying to hijack your thread.
