Does anyone know in what version of regular mame they removed arcade monitor support?

It's still in DOS Mame, I'm not sure about the regular Windows build (was it ever in there?)

As joy said, it's never been in the windows build and is still in the dos build to this day.

It was never included in windows because the best way to adjust window's frequency is with a universal vidoe card driver/tweaker (such as power strip)  so you can run anything.

As absolutely none of the windows front-ends can natively adjust the video card frequencies, adding support to mame would be silly as you wouldn't have any display until after a game was launched.

In these days, just buy an arcade vga card and be done with it.

Only AdvanceMAME and AdvanceMenu will let you write direct to video card modes, but they're both difficult to set up correctly, and dangerous if you pass the wrong modes to your monitor.  You can potentially cause permanent damage to your monitor if you do the wrong thing!

Best bet is as Howard said, and buy an ArcadeVGA.  It's literally plug and play simplicity.  Along with the iPac/jPac, it's the best thing to ever hit the cab-building community.

But you need advance menu (gamelauncher doesn't support arcade frequencies)  so you might as well use the emulator counter-part.

I usually use ArcadeOS for the frontend.  Don't get me wrong, I like Advancemame but I have run into instances where it won't work with my soundcard and dosmame will.  Not sure why.
