To get rid of the negogeo games in you mame list is quite simple...  Take your neogeo search strings and take them on to the "filters" entry at the bottom of your mame gamelist.  Poof the neogeo games are gone. :)

Yes you can run exes now, you just point to the exe in you .cfg file.  The only catch is that the exe you run has to accept mame command line switches (mame.exe romname.)  I've found that most pc games ignore a bad switch so you can launch them fine. Also most media players will accept a swtich like.... (mplayer.exe P:\pathtosong\song.mp3) and play the song you linked so that end work too.  The latest command line wrapper also accepts the "null" string as the emulator name... what the means is it only passes the romname, which very well could be the path to an exe.  I use this trick for pinball arcade, which has a bunch of exe's for each table in a single dir.  Very sneaky but it works :)

Would it be possible to make a PC Games list?

Demon, you are missing the new filter strings in that example.

Here's how I make a neogeo list
[path]
logo=
caption=NeoGeo
useclones=0
searchstrings:4=neogeo
filters:
[/path]

Here's my mame list
[path]
logo=Mame.gif
caption=Mame
useclones=1
searchstrings:5=MAME
filters:6=*mature*;4=neogeo
[/path]

First one, neogeo games.
Second one, every game in mame minus mature and neogeo.

Exactly... the filter just takes the gamelist for that searchstring you just made and removes all games that match it.  It's not permenant and only effects that one list.

The dat file utility is good for making exe gamelists but you have to put in one entry at a time.

Probably because you are searching for any games that are a clone of a game called "neogeo"  since there isn't a game called neogeo it obviously isn't going to find anything nor be able to filter out the "nothing" that you have asked it to remove. Remember a games parent rom and  it's system rom are two different things. :)

look at the documentation.... 4=cloneof

you need to search for the manufacturer....
the next version this will be much simplier as you search via driver (like neogeo.c)

Well that works for 90% of  the neogeo.... there are some odd-ball one's that aren't manufactured by snk that it misses (metal slug 3, prehistoric isle 2)  As I said next version it will be much easier...

12=noegeo.c

that's all you have to type :)

Howard, will your next version require a special version of mame, or are you going to use a special dat file?

I've considered doing the neogeo.c type setup for the controllers (so you could setup all the MK games one time based on the driver name).  But I couldn't find an easy way to find the info.

You can find them in mame.exe -listdetails or that is the way Howard and I retrieve them...

The driver isn't in the -listinfo.  Theres a ton of other info, but not the .c file... unless i"m not reading a line right.

You get the manufacturer thats pretty close... but not really it.

(am I wrong?  I'm at the office so I can't check it... but I've gone through it before... but maybe not at the moment when I cared or thought it would be useful)

Not the list info file, the list details file... it's a totally different animal that tells you all of the processor emulators a game uses as well as the driver file.

Upon the next version I will parse listinfo and listdetails myself so the user won't get confused.  It doesn't work for other emus, but as they aren't structured like mame it wouldn't work anyway.

well... I'll be a monkeys uncle... (I've always wanted to be a monkey....)

I don't think I ever looked at the -listdetails.... has less details then the -listinfo for some reason... but it does have some great charateristics to add!  Great for filters based on hardware!

thanks for the info

Yeah I often ignored it myself for the same reasons.... but once you need to do stuff based on hardware it's invaluable.

yeah it is...I added it a long time ago to be able to launch advance mame instead of regular mame for drivers that needed its blitrotate to display properly on a vertical monitor...I also used it frequently in cases when a driver has issues and worked better with an older veriosn of mame...system16 etc. ...and now with the cabs it is even more useful... :)
