Melty Blood
« on: December 18, 2004, 01:43:09 am »
If you are a SF3 (Street Fighter 3) or Guilty Gear 2D fighter fan, you must check out Melty Blood for Windows/PC.  Apparently this is very professional looking *fan-made* fighter game from 2002 that got picked up and turned into one of the hottest Naomi fighters out in Japan right now!  The version released this year for PC and Naomi is called Melty Blood Re-Act.

The character sprites are not as detailed as Guilty Gear (look more like SF3) but the fluid movements and special affects are awsome!  Its rather unusual to have a PC game ported to Naomi, its usually the other way around.   There were rumors of a Dreamcast port following the Naomi release, but that looks like its on hold because the DC doesn't have enough texture memory for this game.  A PS2 or XBox port is still being toyed with.  Anyway, Melty Blood for PC and the upgrade for Re-Act is out for you to enjoy on your PC right now.  ;D

Here are some movies of the original Melty Blood:

Here is the news on Melty Blood Re-Act:

You can download a demo of both versions (and even an fan made english patch!) here:

The game's title sounds like the name of an Arby's sandwhich.  I only played a few rounds of the demo, but it definately shows some promise.  My first impression is that it is ALOT like guilty gear, which is not necessarily a bad thing.  Anyway, thanks for the heads up on this interesting game!

Update:  You can purchase the full game from http://shop.himeya.com/.  Melty Blood is $42, and the Re-Act "append disc" is $24.  This place sells a lot of other Dojin (fan made games) including the popular Shanghai Alice shooters: Imperishable Night, The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, and Perfect Cherry Blossom. (Demo's here http://www.shrinemaiden.com/MKAbout.htm).

There is a new Melty Blood out on PS2 now, called Melty Blood: Act Cadenza or some such and there was an add-on pack for the original PC game called Re-Act. These look good, anyone played these yet? I'm saving up to buy some of these and some other import games in bulk to save on shipping.
