Mamemarquees.com review

For some time now I have been recommending that the people who I design cabinet graphics for use mamemarquees.com for printing because of their attention to detail and quality output. Until now I have had only one (mini-sized) sample of their work, though that was enough to sell me on their services.

I just had a full sized control panel printed out for a project I'm working on, so for the first time I have an actual CP overlay from them to judge.

Let me first say that the quality is absolutely unbelievable. It withstands the absolute closest scrutiny. The color balance is absolutely beautiful and the gradients.....which another (to remain unnamed) printer would never have been able to properly reproduce.... are perfectly smooth and absolutely stunning. The blues stay true (which is tough for most printers using an RGB file) and the whites and greys are clean (free from tinting) as well.

I started my professional life at an ad agency where I handled print production for ads running in Sports Illustrated, People, Wired, Next Generation, EGM etc. I was responsible for press checks and proofing image quality, so I feel I know what I'm talking about when I say that mamemarquees printing quality is second to none. Truly beautiful work and an absolute pleasure to deal with.

OK here are two pics. As usual the camera doesn't do the real thing justice, but at least you get an idea.

The waviness is due to the image not being held flat. The magenta tint to the eyes is coming from my camera and ambient lighting.

Is it printed on 'real' CPO material?  Roughly how thick is it?

Well it's not vinyl. It is a heavy weight paper... not sure on the lbs. Since it's under lexan thickness is not an issue.... I do think mamemarquees does print on vinyl for CPO's not under lexan but you'd have to ask them. Whatever stock it is, it illuminates beautifully and looks fantastic.

I printed Pixels on my typical Marquee stock since he was putting it under plexiglas.  I can get a bit better color gamut from the Marquee stock then the vinyl.  Normally I print on Adhesive backed vinyl and laminate it with polycarbinate textured laminate, which is very tough and does not need plexiglas over it.  There is a lot more information on my FAQ on my site.

I am always trying to improve upon the output of the graphics I produce. I am actually testing out some new laminate, that is "supposed" to enhance the color.  We will see how it works out, I want to make sure it will hold up like the polycarbinate.

Are the overlays really as glossy as how it looks in Pixelhugger's photo? Or are they like "real overlays" usually are?

The reflection in the photo to show texture is definitely much glossier than the overlay really is. The other photos are pretty accurate. Here are some images under plexi from the project thread.

I got a marquee printed from Scott also. While I'm not far enough along with my cab to install it, I can attest to the quality of the print. It looks absolutely fantastic!

I did hold it up in front of the flourescent light over the that lights the stairs to my basement to get an idea of how it would look lit, and it looked awesome.

I can concurr with the quality of the work. I had my marquee printed from Scott, and I could not believe how it looked when it was installed. He went through the trouble of adjusting the red in the graphic so that it would look like the original color that I intended it to be without turning pink when backlit. I would recommend him 100%!

So your countrol panel overlays are adhesive backed correct?

I believe so, I recently asked Scott a question about CPO's and his response was:

I tend to like to make some room for error, .5" or so all the way around.  This give you some room for misplacing the adhesive backed cpo.

MameMarquees.com is in a different league all together when it comes to quality. Classicarcadegraffix isn't even close.
