Ultimarc X-box Adaptor Compatibility List
« on: December 17, 2004, 01:45:37 pm »
I decided I might as well start an unofficial compatibility list for ultimarc's x-box adaptor seeing as how im sure many people are interested in how it performs.  At the moment, I've only been able to test 2 games, but will be able to test approximately 30-40 more games over the next week or two.  so post your results and i'll keep adding it to the list :)

First off a few tips/warnings before you buy the adaptor:

1.  The adaptor requires your i-pac to be in ps/2 mode (not usb mode) which means all of you who purchased your i-pac with a usb cable, you'll need to obtain or purchase a separate ps/2 cable with 2 male ends, such as this:  http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=50107165&pfp=SEARCH

2.  The adaptor did not appear to work using the "alt" switch on the i-pac, meaning if you custom programmed keys to the i-pac, it wont respond on the x-box unless you switch it to the "mame" jumper setting.  this is just from personal experience, so ill need further confirmation on this.

3.  I recommend getting the optional casing sold at ultimarc or making your own just to provide some sort of simple protection around it, as it will most likely not be able to be stored safely in your control panel because of the short length of the controller cables connected to the adaptor (this makes the adaptor required to be plugged close to the x-box console itself)  unless you buy some controller extension cables of some sort.

So here it is, the w.i.p. unofficial ultimarc XBA compatibility list:

Working / Playable ;D

Capcom Vs. SNK 2 EO
Dead or Alive 2: Ultimate
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2
Psyvariar 2

Not Working / Not Playable ???

Burnout 3 - unable to use L and R triggers for gas/brake
Sega Soccer Slam - unable to use L and R triggers
Soul Calibur 2 - not working under any mode

Thanks to all those who post their findings!

Hmmm, I've just ordered one of these a couple of minutes ago, but now I'm a bit worried...

Some people have said that w/o the triggers, MvC and MvC2 will not work -- is this true?

Also, you have said that Soul Calibur 2 won't work... is this still true?

Are there any other updates on the status of other games?

Please ease my concerns :(

sorry for the lack of updates guys... i was in new york for a trip over the holidays and just recently started another quarter at my college.  but heres some feedback for those that wanna know how the adaptor actually performs.

at the moment, im quite pleased with the responsiveness the adaptor provides, but as you can see from my original post, im a fan of fighting games.  i was really disappointed about soul calibur 2 not working...  ive tried all the different digital/analog modes, and none seem to work with the game.

one thing ive noticed, is that the adaptor seems a little buggy in the fact that it doesnt always work when you start up your xbox.  sometimes, all the controls will be unresponsive upon startup, or other instances, only 2nd player works.  a quick restart of the console can remedy the problem though.  another thing i noticed is that in rare cases, the directional controls become unresponsive out of nowhere while you are playing.  ex:  i was playing marvel vs capcom 2, and after about an hour for some reason i wasnt able to move my character, but could still use attacks.

for marvel vs capcom 2 and capcom vs snk 2 EO, the lack of L and R triggers dont affect the game.  you can easily config the controller layout in-game.  however, if youre not a big fan of fighters, and want to play some other arcade-friendly games, there are a LOT of games on the x-box that require the L and R buttons, and you will be unable to play them.  one game for example, is Sega Soccer Slam.  the L and R triggers are required, and you cant re-assign them to the black and white buttons.  another game with the same problem is Burnout 3  :'(

i hope i answered a lot of questions you might have, feel free to ask about anything else you want to know about the adaptor.

one last thing, feel free to post a game or list of games you'd like me to test =)
