Recommended Neo Geo games
« on: December 17, 2004, 10:07:10 am »
Just made a deal to buy my first Neo Geo MVS. I'll be picking it up on Monday. I've already ordered a couple of games to run on it, Metal Slug 5 and Blazing Star. These are a couple games that I'm familiar with and know I'll enjoy. I'm not super familiar with many others and my MAME cab is really only set up for mid 80's and earlier classics. It can't really handle newer games at all (233 mhz). So I was wondering if you guys could recommned some games that you enjoy. Other than the rest of the Metal Slug series and King of the Monsters, there really isn't much more on my want list.

Somehow I managed to convince my wife that a Neo Geo cab would make the perfect xmas gift for me, so merry xmas to me. ;)

I love Neo TurfMasters (golf) and Last Resort (side scrolling R-Type style shooter).

Oh if it's a working Neo-Geo machine you really should keep it functional and try to track down something that's already broken or gutted to convert to MAME.

I'm not really into golf games at all, but thanks for the pointer to Last Resort, that one looks like something I'd enjoy.

I've got some MVS carts lying around somewhere. I meant to eBay them after I sold my Irritating Maze NeoGeo kit (which doesn't work well with other NeoGeo games by the way). I think I've got 3 Count Bout, Art of Fighting and a couple others (maybe Fatal Fury I) if you're interested you can have them for $10 each plus shipping.

I'll second the pick of Shock Troopers, and I also really like Neo Mr. Do!
Its almost unbearably cutesy, but has great music and fast, fun play.

The first Neo Geo game I ever played was "Blue's Journey".  Not bad.  Very cute. :)

Garou, any of the Samurai Shodown games, and the first Metal Slug are my favouries.  Puzzle Bobble is great for attracting the ladies (why is it that women are so damned good at that game???).

2020 baseball is also a hoot.

I third the votes for 2020 baseball.  It's a great, fast-paced, futuristic baseball game.  lotsa fun, though it is kinda hard IMO (then again, I kinda suck at games)

I would suggest the older metal slug games.... you know, before they started re-hashing the game over and over and the games were actually a decent length.  Compared to the other slugs, ms 4 and 5 are at the bottom of the heap.

yes if you like fighting games Garou Mark of the wolves is a must, it's my favorite neogeo game after mslug2. On a side note: how much did you pay for you mvs system? I might try to buy one later this year(after I pay my credit card...)

Other good games:
Windjammers (Combat freezbee match yay!)
King of Fighter series (dont need explenation)
Samurai Shodow is really good too

Magician Lord and Sengoku are two awesome and usually overlooked options.

Also Blazing Star, Pulstar and Last Resort if you're into shooters.  8)
