Donkey Kong sound is strange
« on: December 16, 2004, 09:18:38 am »
Just teaking my first Mame cab..... got everything set up within Mame32 v.86  and now swapping everything over to MameWah and Mame v.87b.

But when I play Donkey Kong I notice that some of the sounds are missing.... running, jumping sounds missing. When DK knocks the girders out of line at the start, that sound is missing too.

But if I move my roms and samples over to Mame32 folder everything is perfect. Any ideas?  Did the sound sample files change names or something?  I'm simply moving files from one directory to another.... I'm not changing anything.

Are you sure you have everything copied over?  Are you sure your config is correct?

There are samples for those effects you described.  Try specifying the full path... for example c:\mame\samples\ in your mame.ini also double-check the dkong.zip sample is in this directory.  You can also open the zip and verify there are files in it... they are wavs as I recall probably called jump.wav, run.wav or something.

Samples Changed

www.mameworld.net/maws/

Yes, this was the problem. Some samples have been updated recently. I've now downloaded the updated ones and things work fine now. I don't ever remember the running sound being like that though. It sounds weird.... and I played DK for ages back in the early 80's.

I still have a question though. If the older samples played OK with Mame32 v.86 then why would the same sounds not play back in Mame v.87b?   I actually prefer the running sound in the old one. But played back in standard Mame it's silent.  ???

the sound files are probably named differently.  You could probably rename your old ones to use if you wanted.
