Recreating Pong

Since we know that Pong cannot be emulated in MAME, would it be possible to recreate the boards and controls Nolan Bushnell used

Yes, it is really easily actually, they even sell a Pong kit to make your own. If you want an EXACT copy then read the schematics and build the same thing, it is all off the shelf components.

The kits and all the 1975 and later clones used the TVGAMES chip, which pretty much had the whole thing on it.

I would like to do something like this for Stunt Cycle.  Either that, or I would just like to find an original dedicated Stunt Cycle cab.

I'm extremely jealous of you Paige!   ;)

If you're referring to Pong, yes.  If Stunt Cycle, I don't think so.  There was a guy working on emulating the discrete logic of Stunt Cycle, and he even had it partially working.  But his site is gone now, and he had not shared his code with anyone that I know of.  I have the ROM images and the schematics of the machine.  Hopefully someday I'll have time to sit down and try to figure out how to do it myself.    :(

I need to play mine more often!!!! I still only have $11 invested in that thing. $5 for new handgrips and $6 for a cap kit (along with 4 hours of cleaning, 2 hours repair time, and 20 minutes to repaint the coin door).

You can make your own game with gamemaker.

It's an event based program that compiles exe files you can play without the system.

I got it and downloaded it and put my son's face in it's version of 1943.  It's funny.

You can make about any game like that. I think there is even a pong prebuilt source file you can modify.

Probably the closest you're going to get is th version of Pong on the Atari classics CD they put out a while back.  I think I've seen it on the shelves pretty recently.

I'm not sure how well you can run it from a front end, but technically, it should be the only "official" version available.

Otherwise, I think there is a retro game box out that has some of those old pong/hockey games built in.  Otherwise, I'm sure ebay has loads of em for a couple bucks each.

There's always Arkanoid, which IMO is a much more interesting game...
