MameWah help
« on: December 06, 2004, 02:58:35 pm »
Has anyone else had problems with their desktop being corrupted after exiting mamewah? I'm using ver 1.5.2 and the most common problem I get is my taskbar is missing after exiting. Sometimes my desktop icons are corrupt, once all my quicklaunch icons were blank. If I start and exit mamewah a few times then my taksbar eventually re-appears but the other problems require a reboot to fix.

It (just the task bar problem) only happens to me with an abnormal shutdown of MameWAH, like if I have to kill the process because of testing or use the CTRL-Alt-Del method. Re-launching it and then shutting it down gracefully has always fixed the video corruption/resolution issues for me.

I have no problems with it crashing. I get these issues with proper shutdown (hitting esc to exit or choosing exit to windows from the menu). I have noticed that the problems are more likely to happen if I actually play a mame game from mamewah as opposed to just opening mamewah, poking around and exiting (without launching a mame game).

Not sure about this...what OS are you running Iz?

I have seen a possibly related issue on my desktop.  Very occasionally MAMEWAH will not exit properly and whatever is 'behind' MW does not get refreshed properly (display-wise).  When I go into Task Manager it seems MW is still running although not visible, and not responding.  End Task and all is ok again...

As I say this is very occasional for me, so I haven't been able to trace a problem.  Also not sure if it is relevant but I have always had Explorer running when this has happened.  This has only ever happened since I moved sound/input etc. to DirectX, so it could be an issue with that.

I'm running WinXP Pro. I also have windows explorer open at all times - I've just started using MameWah 2 days ago and I was launching it by double-clicking the .exe from windows explorer. Next time I exit and the taskbar is missing I'll check the process list to see if mamewah is still running...

Try just not running Explorer at the same time.  I don't on my cab and I have never seen the problem.

I tried last night launching mamewah from a shortcut and leaving windows explorer (and all other programs) closed. No problems. Very strange bug?

Thanks for the tip...  :)

Yeah maybe...it doesn't happen often enough for me to even begin to try and find it :(

But then again MW does assume to some extent that no other programs are running, and I do recommend that so that is my get out clause  ;)
