VGA to Scart with AVGA. Spot my problem??
« on: December 05, 2004, 05:58:46 am »
Hi,

I am have a major headache with my vga to scart setup and it's even more baffling as I had no problem making a cable for vga to an imperial kortek arcade monitor.

I have 3 video cards. On board, Geforce 4 and an ArcadeVGA 9200.

I have 3 televisions. Sanyo, Mitsubishu and a Sharp. All with Scart obviously.

I have tried several guides on making a scart cable, but the current cable looks like this:

VGA Pin
1 - Red - to Scart 15
2 - Green - to Scart 11
3 - Blue - to Scart 7
13 and 14 - H sync and V Sync, Twisted together to make composite sync - To Scart 20 & 16

Symptoms:
The arcadevga card just displays nothing, black screen.

The Geforce displays something akin to a spectrum loading screen, lines everywhere as if the sync is out. I can however see vibrant red green and blues.

The ArcadeVGA card is working as I can VNC in to the arcade PC and install the drivers etc. Device manager reports it as working.

Any suggestions, I'm sure t's a sync issue but I've been scratching my head for so long my hairs falling out.

Cheers

Did you also connect the corresponding ground connection for the RGB and also the common ground as these are required?
I made a cable such as this some time ago and it works perfectly with the AVGA card. Also make sure that your SCART socket supports RGB as not all do. On TVs with multiply SCART connections it is usually only the first one that supports this.

Regards to all,

John.

Also, did you use an existing RGB only cable or did you add a Scart connector to a VGA cable? I think I read somewhere that some TV's will only read RGB signals if there is a specific resistance between two of the pins.

Thanks guys.  Turns out the Scart cable was fine, it's the ArcadeVGA card that is the problem.  I got the cable working on a Geforce 4mx with powerstrip.

I've ordered a new AVGA to confirm this before sending back the old one.
