19" med res monitor
« on: December 01, 2004, 10:41:49 pm »
I need to look at getting a replacement for the 19K4915 in my Super Sprint. Someone has really screwed up the chassis on this monitor and I'm not even sure I want to spend the time and effort to try and un-do what they've done. Unless someone has a 4915 monitor chassis they want to part with, or can loan me so I can try and figure out how to un-do what has been done to this thing, I will need to find a replacement medium res 19" monitor. What options do I have for monitors?

They don't list a 19" mid res on their site, only the tri-res one which is *way* more monitor than I need for this game. I think I'm going to put the right HOT and a new flyback on it and see what happens. I'm still trying to determine the reason behind the mod that was made to the neckboard. Pin 5 on the neckboard socket has been lifted and a wire soldered from the socket to a small add-on board on the main board(not the protection board though). Got any suggestions Ken?

That's weird----they used to make a 19" medium res monitor. Looks like they must have discontinued it. :(

I did a little Googling around and I could no longer find any company making 19" medium res monitors.

According to the 19k4915 schematic I have, that wire going to pin 5 of the picture tube socket is correct and goes down to several externally mounted parts (probably on a terminal strip). This provides a -40 volts to grid #1 inside the picture tube and this is not present on standard res 4900's

Wow, it's weird that WG did it like that. It sure looks like something that has been hacked together to fix a problem instead of it being fixed right. Well in that case I might get lucky and get away with the correct HOT and a new flyback. This is the second monitor I've worked on that someone has used the the wrong HOT on to try and make it work. Why the hell can't people just go and get the correct parts?  ???
Becasue they just used whatever HOT they has laying around instead of spending the $15 on the right one, now I have to spend the $15 on the right one and probably $50 for the flyback too. Although I'm going to steal the flyback off of another K4900 series I have here, I'll still have to replace it eventually.  :-[

I have some bad news for you. The 4900 series flyback has been long since N.L.A. from virtually all suppliers. You might have to contact the parts dept at Wells-Gardner to see if there may be a few NOS ones laying around, but I think you're out of luck.

Gee Ken you're just full of good news aren't you? *lol* Well I think the standard res 4900 that I have will be sacrificing it's flyback to save the medium res monitor. I don't even know if the standard res monitor I have works anyhow, it was part of a group of stuff I pulled out of a barn a couple of weeks ago. So if I can save the Med res monitor, the standard res one will probably get an 8-liners chassis.
