X2VGA
« on: November 30, 2004, 10:36:26 pm »
I understand that the standard XBOX dashboard is displayed in 480i and will not display on most VGA monitors.  Are there any xbox dashboards available that can display in 480p?  Also does anyone know off hand if a Wells Gardner D9200 27" Arcade Monitor can display 480i ?

I know using the X2VGA there is a special 480i half screen mode but if I could help it id like to have the xbox capable of 480i on demand.

Any suggestions?  Thanks

Dave_K.

If you have a modded xbox, there are a couple bios' available that support a 480p dashboard (check xbox-scene.com bios compatibility chart).  But this is probably not the route you want to take.

The D9200 multisync monitor supports both 480i (or 15.7khz) and 480p (or 31.5khz).  This is probably what you want (or the Betson 27" multisync which everyone seems to be buying over the d9200).

The X2VGA converter has a special 480i mode which crudely upscans the  signal so you can see the standard dashboard on a VGA monitor.  It may not look very pretty, but will let you then go in an activate the 480P display options in the dashboard menu.  Its not ment for playing games at 480i. This is your cheapest option.

I use Evo-X dashboard and it displays in 480p just fine.  I may have had to enable 480p in the stock dash setup first.  Can't remember.  I also thought the stock dash went to 480p once you enabled it, too.  It's been a few weeks since I set mine up but I seem to rememebr that the 480i problem went away for good once I finished the setup from the x2vga instructions.

Navigate to the Video Settings area and enable 480p
Press BOTH triggers, and BOTH thumbstick buttons simultaneously. At that time, the Dashboard should switch in to progressive scan mode. It WILL remember this setting between restarts. To turn this off, you can repeat the key combination, turn off 480p.

So since the D9200 monitor is capable of 480i does this mean that if I have it hooked up to the x2vga adapter that I can play 480i games as well as not have to worry about using the half screen mode?

Can I just hook it up and not worry about what mode its in wether its 480i or 480p?
