X-Arcade Cancelled my Auction!!
« on: November 29, 2004, 08:05:55 pm »
WTF, I was selling a custom made 2-player joystick, and the ---daisies--- cancelled the auction because I compared it to the X-Arcade 2 player version, saying that theirs cost more and didn't use Happ Controls.

Maybe it's just me but that seems pretty screwed up. The BYOAC people are the reason that X-arcade exists.

It doesn't use Happ controls, right?

Happened to me a couple months back, too.  Used 'X-arcade' in the text of my ad.  I emailed X-gaming about this.  Shawn emailed me back within ten minutes with a very polite explanation.  The applicable (to your situation) paragraph from his reply:

"Actually, we automate the process on ebay's vero program to object to any
auctions which list any of our trademarks. (for trademark and also for
search manipulation)."

Basically if you use the term X-arcade or X-gaming in your copy, you'll probably get flagged.  They don't even see the ads; a program catches them.

On  the plus side, you should get reimbursed by ebay for the auction.  Just remove the comparison and relist.  You'll be fine.

Relist your auction and instead of using the text of your description put that exact text into an jpeg file and show it that way. Won't get flagged because you can't search for text in an image file, at least not on ebay.

What if you're trying to resell your X-arcade joystick you no longer need?

Exactly. Using automated software to cancel people's auctions is immoral. Thus I no longer respect X-Gaming's trademark terms. What if someone sold an ex-gaming establishent (in the real estate section). Or what if they were indeed selling their x-arcade. Or what if their was an adult movie called sex-arcade?

The image trick is your friend. I have seen some sellers who make their entire auction an image. It foils automatic search and destroy things quite well.

the mind boggles over what that might contain....

Other ideas -  This controller uses actual Happ controls and is less expensive than the commercially available product with the black chinese knock-off joysticks and buttons and the big white X on top, which is available at Fry's or online.

Their search engine won't find that either, but Fry's might  >:(

Are people actually really searching for X-Arcades anywhere? The stupid company spends so much money on adverts and search engine manipulation that you don't even need to search for it, ever.

My guess is they advertise so much to grab the noobie's dollars before they (noob) 'stumble' upon the better quality options out there.  That's the first link these people are seeing and the price is right.

Something I find interesting: unless my memory is playing tricks on me, I can remember the X-arcades being advertised on ebay with the phrase 'not a Slikstik' either in the heading or the subheading not too very long ago.

I seem to remember them using that line, too.
